No matter how it’s sliced...ND will drop to 4 and we will play either OU or OSU (assuming GA loses)

If GA wins. Bama to 4 us to 1...UGA to 2 and ND to 4...

I disagree on both counts.

Assuming all the favorites win this weekend, Alabama and Clemson stay #1 and #2, ND stays at #3, and Oklahoma is #4. Ohio State is #5. Their blowout loss to Purdue will hurt them.

If Georgia beats Alabama and the other favorites win, I believe it will be Clemson #1, ND #2, Georgia #3, and Oklahoma #4.

My point was there is no way Bama gets left out and no way they will match them up with OU

If Ga beats Bama, Bama is still 100% in the playoff, as is Georgia.

Yes, your “if GA wins” scenario is ESPN’s wet dream (assuming you mean ND stays at #3). The potential for a second consecutive all SEC National Title matchup! Man, the Coots’ glowing pride would be unbearable.

not fair that ND gets to rest & heal while the other teams beat each other up. same as alabama got to do. that is a definite advantage for any team making it to final 4 playing 1 less game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Latest College Football Playoff rankings released

Nov 28, 2018, 8:31 AM

That is more true than most people realize. An extra week to heal up injuries, and an extra week to prepare for the opponent is significant, and a huge advantage for the bye team. We saw that last year in the Clemson vs Al game.

If Alabama wins we will 100% be playing ND. They will stay 3 in that scenario without question.

for bama to stay in even if they lose. they may as well pen them in each year and let the rest fight it out for the other three spots thats technically what it amounts to any way

This is called Commendation by Annihilation. In the absence of teams who are more deserving, you commend teams that have been utterly destroyed by your Ultimate Champion.

It is closely related to Association by Annihilation, the strange familial bond that Chicken fans have for more successful SEC programs because Bama and GA whip them both.

College football is sitting on a gold mine they could have a 24 team playoff without any more games than they already play ,
If you eliminate the meaningless Conference Championship games the Top 8 teams get a first round bye after the bottom 16 teams play the surviving 8 play the top 8 in week 2 that's 16 bowl games so far leaving the final 8 teams week 3 leaves us with the Final Four most teams only play two games just like they do now with the conference Championship game and a meaningless bowl game football is a game that needs to be decided on the field not with a commission or coaches polls or a computer they don't have any of that in the NFL and there's a reason for that

Re: Interesting...Bama would choose the Orange due to OU's

Nov 28, 2018, 8:19 AM

It is my understanding that the teams do not choose location. But that the committee does. The reason we go to Dallas if OK is at 4 is because they will not give the #1 team a geographical disadvantage and putting Bama/OK in Dallas gives OK a geo advantage because of OK proximity. Anybody else know something different? Maybe David could do a “what if” article?

It would be fun to see a game at Jerry World. Plus, we can stay for Sunday and see the ‘Boys play.

Re: No, Dabo talked about why he chose the Sugar over the Rose

Nov 28, 2018, 2:00 PM

You keep saying this, but it's not true just because you repeat it. Go read about it. It's posted all over threads here, it's on the CFP official website, etc. It's well documented that the committee makes the determination. Maybe they take some input from the top seeds when making the decision, but the top seed doesn't get to unilaterally pick where they play. It's not Dabo's decision or Saban's decision...it's the committee's.

When assigning teams to sites, the committee will place the top two seeds at the most advantageous sites, weighing criteria such as convenience of travel for its fans, home-crowd advantage or disadvantage and general familiarity with the host city and its stadium. Preference will go to the No. 1 seed.[i

Read the last sentence with some common sense. Preference will go to the 1 seed does not mean "one seed picks the location". It means if the Orange Bowl is the better location for #1 and for #2, #1 gets it.

They're saying that if Georgia 'barely loses' to Alabama in the SEC Championship, that they'll still be in.

God, I sure hope so. Because if there's one thing that I DEFINITELY want to see is Alabama and Georgia play each other 3 times in 2018.

There's no way the CFB committee would do that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Food for thought......

Nov 28, 2018, 11:08 AM

Alabama is deemed "in" due to dominating their opponents in the SEC.

8 out of 14 SEC teams have a .500 record or sub (miss st, Auburn, Mississippi, Arkansas, Tenn, ,Vandy, Missouri, SC)

Alabama has played 6 of those sub-.500 teams this season.

The rest of their schedule included: Louisville, Arkansas State, Texas A&M, LA Lafayette, LSU, Citadel.

Basically - they're been dominate over a sh*t conference.

UCF is undefeated as well - has played a slew of sh*t opponents as well and beat all of them

The point is that there VERY MUCH IS AN SEC BIAS.

When the committee gives a 1-loss Bama an "in" route based on their "schedule" - they might take a closer look at how cake-walk this year was for Bama.....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Food for thought......

Georgia could beat Bama twice and Bama would still be in.

Re: TNET: Latest College Football Playoff rankings released

Nov 29, 2018, 9:30 AM

Think about this scenario, If Alabama loses to Georgia in Conference Championship and does not make it to Final Four, what happens to Notre Dame. They do not play in a Conference Championship due to lack of a Conference Affiliation in football. Notre Dame shouldn't even be in the conversation to begin with. That means, if Alabama loses and is out, Notre Dame should be out also. That leaves Clemson at #1 Georgia #2. Who would be #3 and #4 ? Oklahoma, Ohio State or UCF ? Would hate to make that decision. GO TIGERS!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: Latest College Football Playoff rankings released

Nov 29, 2018, 9:50 AM

Why would Alabama's loss knock Notre Dame out? That is shaky logic.
The reason Alabama would be out in that scenario is because they lost. Period. There are two top-tier power 5 undefeated teams that would jump them (Clemson, Notre Dame). Georgia logically has to jump them (head to head comparison, same overall record).

The conversation then becomes Alabama, Ohio State, and Oklahoma. UCF cannot jump Ohio State and Oklahoma unless both of them lose.
