Any idea if the memorial tablet or the obelisks were saved and preserved?

Unlike what the article says, they definitely didn’t blow up the bridge. When we had the big drought about 10 years ago I stood on that bridge. The obelisks and the metal structure are gone but the rest of the concrete structure was intact. I’ll try to find pictures when I get home.

You could see some of the concrete back in 2008 when the

Would like to know where the plaque honoring the WW1 soldiers is also. I'd like to see it.

The one honoring Clemson men from Oconee is at the bridge over the lake on US123 on the Oconee side down behind the guardrail. A horrible location that cannot be seen or read at 55 mph. I previously brought to the attention of veterans coordinator in Oconee but no action yet. Should be put in a visible place of honor. Used to one on the Pickens side but it is no longer there.

Wonder why the plague did not have a date?

The date is usually in the concrete, and maybe they didn't think another one was necessary?
Remember, that was the 'Great War' or the 'War to End all Wars' so they did not think a date was critical. It was not called WW1 until there was a WW2. I hope deersnypr posts his pictures.

While at Clemson a slightly impaired buddy &date were headed back to Clemson after a band party at the Chicken Shack near Sennaca and somehow went straight down old 123 instead making the curve. Didn’t stop until he was in the lake!! Poor guy quickly earned the nickname “Splash”........Good Times.
