What I would say to those blowfish, is that not a single one of them could have took over Clemson when Dabo did, and do the same job that Dabo has done even if they were in the best and smartest period of their lifetime. And what they should do when Dabo has something to say regardless of what it is, they should shut the fk up and just listen. Then go home and tell their wife and kids that they were privileged to have had a chance to hear a great FB coach speak to them that day, and he told them what a P O S he believed they were and had always been!!!

What I would have liked from Dabo is less about we play who we’re scheduled to play and defending of the league. For example, FL was lucky to be Miami, Ped State barely beat Pitt, ND barely beat VT and UNC beat SC (he did get point in at least). Of course KY and FL boat raced Louv and FSU and that didn’t help our cause....UGA stomping GT was no surprise.

Dec 5, 2019, 6:24 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: ESPN analyst: People don't want to hear Dabo complaining ]

Some people don't get - nobody suggest the SEC for example - isn't top heavy! But, I am not convinced Ole Miss would come to the ACC and run rough shot on the rest of this conference. I know dang well S. Carolina couldn't do it as they are what 1 and 5 out of their last 6 with ACC teams outside of Clemson. Stop it!

Who besides Ohio State is challenging for a National Title? And don't give me who gets ranked high and then go beat up Maryland and Rutgers. Who? Nobody! So, why can't the ACC have Clemson and a bunch of other teams?
Why is it different? At least the ACC can claim that since 2000 "current" key word b/c some of these were not in the ACC at the time - "Current" ACC teams have played for the National Championship multiple times! Clemson, FSU, Miami(03 and 01), Virginia Tech(00)..

The SEC can say: Alabama, Florida, Auburn, Georgia & LSU.

Give me a break!

In 2015 - posted it yesterday Clemson2003 U of Non-Compliance was the #10 team in the country heading into the championship game! 11-1. My point being - current #23 UVA is 9-3 and a pretty good team in their own right! I think you are like the rest - thinking the ACC is supposed to have it's own Alabama, LSU, Florida, etc. The ACC is the ACC and not so much different than most conferences not called the SEC.
Big 12 who have played for it? Or seriously contends for it?
Pac 12 same question?

Get real.

Who wrote us off as dead? My goodness, we moved down a few spots in the rankings based on how we had played up to that point. I never heard anyone say "Clemson sucks this year and will probably finish 9-3 or something, or even if they do make the playoffs they'll lose by 50."

Well if you want to also remember it was the same talking heads that hyped Clemson in the off season and put them #1 and then they struggle for a few games and they knock them to 3rd. Now they are playing like the hype the last 7 games and they are not moved back to #1. I think all Dabo is saying is do not hype us up and then find reasons tear back down when we play as expected!

To answer your question most of the people on the National talk shows wrote Clemson off.
They dropped to 5th after winning a game, not losing a game. Also after winning the first 4 games by more than 30 points!
They have not recognized any of Clemson’s players in the awards announced thus far.
Total disrespect!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yawn!

Dec 5, 2019, 1:05 PM

The narrative about Clemson was set early on. Dabo was trying to build and learn this years team then. He couldn't respond. The regular season gets over and he un-corks his thoughts. Simple.
The most this years team could possibly lose is 1 game. Pretty good. I feel we will win 3 games and be National Champions!

If not, still dang proud of this team!

Early season struggles must have totally been forgotten about all of a sudden. Dropping Clemson even though we were winning is "disrespectful"! Not just to Clemson as a program; but to the ACC and all our opponents!

The "I am a Clemson fan not an ACC crowd" are all likely very confused too! Because they don't get that it's an indictment on our league and our validity as a serious contender for the title.
Truth is: "the ACC isn't nearly as bad as it's made out to be"! 2 and 14 versus the power 5 is said often but tell me the match ups people? Was it a middle of the road ACC versus middle of the road SEC? Or was it top of the SEC versus the bottom of the ACC? See Georgia vs. Georgia Tech. Florida State vs. Florida. Teams the ACC beat up on in other words getting beat up OOC - then people making a big deal of it. Big 10 west champ last year Northwestern was beaten in Illinois by ACC school Duke. No credit for that one, right?

Dabo has a case no matter if they want to hear it or not. Keep it to himself and the team others say. To me - don't ask him the question then media types if you don't want to hear it. You are asking for it(literally).

Re: Yawn!

Dec 5, 2019, 1:23 PM [ in reply to Yawn! ]

Funny you mention the UGA/GT and FSU/Florida games as being top teams against bottom teams, but leave out Kentucky/Louisville. Louisville was 5-3 in the ACC which was good enough for 2nd in the Atlantic and tied with VT for the 3rd best conference record in the ACC. Kentucky was 3-5 in the SEC, 4th place in the SEC East, and tied with 3 other teams for the 8th best conference record in the SEC. Kentucky won the game 45-13.

The rest of the ACC besides Clemson is 6-22 against other P5 teams since the start of last season, and 6-30 if you include ND. That can't simply be spun into it being our worst teams against the best in the other conferences. Besides, what teams would you consider to be the top teams in the ACC besides Clemson over the last 2 years?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Yawn!

Dec 5, 2019, 6:15 PM

Clemson2003 - I have asked before only to have my request ignored. Please, if you are going to try and bring this up - include the match ups then?

Everyone - fair ask or not? I think so. For someone so adamant about the struggles of the ACC not being any of the better teams then provide your data!

If those wins include Clemson but not Duke beating Northwestern last year - flawed data!

Also, Pitt went 1-4 out of conference last year including their bowl game, and they played for the freakin ACC Championship. How so many of you are still so confused as to the "disrespect" the ACC gets is beyond confusing to me.

Re: TNET: ESPN analyst: People don't want to hear Dabo complaining

Dec 5, 2019, 1:15 PM

I know most people on here are going to get worked up over this, but he's actually right IMO. If this were any team and coach other than our own we'd all be tired of it as well. Most times people don't want to hear someone else complaining, even if that person is right.

To everyone else we're a team that is 1 win away from our 5th straight CFP appearance. We've won 2 out of the last 3 NC's and played in 3 out of the last 4 NC games. We at no fault of our own haven't played a tough schedule this year, and we're sitting 3rd in the rankings. If we're deserving of being ranked #1 then we'll prove it in the playoffs which we'll get the chance to do with a win over UVA. Most fans of other teams would do anything to have half the success we've had recently, yet they're hearing our coach complaining of not being treated fairly. Even if Dabo is correct in what he's saying, nobody outside of Clemson wants to hear it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You're doing the same thing ESPN is

Dec 5, 2019, 1:32 PM

Whatch the entire interview.. not just a 30 sec sound bite. Dabo was asked a questioned ...and answered it with facts.

Tell me what in that 30 sec sound bite was UNTRUE.. You tell us why beating scar is NOT important.

You tell us that in your heart of hearts you think a 1 loss clemson team would have the same chances to get into the cfp as okl, osu, uga, Utah, Baylor, bama, Oregon, and lsu.

Instead of dealing with the truth you and the media are skirting his point. Dabo simply TOLD the solid truth about the CFP this year and you are calling it complaining.

The simple fix is... if you don't want to hear an answer, don't ask a question.

Re: TNET: ESPN analyst: People don't want to hear Dabo complaining

Dec 5, 2019, 1:36 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: ESPN analyst: People don't want to hear Dabo complaining ]

People keep saying we fell from #1 down to #5. It probably makes little difference, but we were never #1 in the CFP ranking as we started out #5 in that poll. We were never lower than 4th in the AP and never lower than 3rd in the Coaches.

As for not dropping in the first place. I'm not sure if anyone else has or not, but why should there be some rule that a team can't drop unless they lose? If you're a voter and think a team is #1 in the preseason, but think differently a month into the season you aren't allowed to change your vote until the team you initially voted #1 losses?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: ESPN analyst: People don't want to hear Dabo complaining

Dec 5, 2019, 4:21 PM

If you honestly can say that Alabama was justifiably perceived to be undeniably better than Clemson then I'll concede the point.

Otherwise, what was the reasoning for Alabama jumping Clemson to the #1 spot? What in Alabama's performance clearly indicated that they were better than Clemson? How does that perception weigh now?

It isn't a question of merit in the rankings. Dabo appropriately is calling out inconsistencies in how teams are perceived. Has Saban ever been questioned about his schedule?

How about LSU? Is the one score margin of victory against Texas held against them? Why not? Texas has only one more win than UNC and as many close games.

Don't get me started on Georgia who can play as many close games as they wish while also LOSING to a 4 win team ...

... yet why are they ranked so closely to Clemson?

Another point:
The SEC has not been far and away better than the ACC in head to head competition of late.

In this decade, the SEC has averaged just one more victory over the ACC per year, a 55% winning percentage overall, and an average score of 29-26.

If you look at just ACC vs. SEC West opponents, the SEC rises to an "overwhelming" 60% (23-15) winning percentage and average score of 32-25. The main difference: the SEC West is 11-2 in this decade against the Coastal. The SEC West has a losing record (12-13) to the Atlantic.

In short, the SEC of this decade is not head and shoulders above the ACC in anything but preferential bias in the media.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ok dude. I love these guys trying to deny the purpose

Dec 5, 2019, 1:22 PM

Of Dabo’s complaints.

When there is a question of unfairness, put another team from the same league in its place and play it out identically. If Bama or aOSU went undefeated one year w a championship, and kept the streak going with pretty much all annihilations and they are 3rd while Clemson is only undefeated this year with a poor defense at #1, I wonder if these “experts” (in quotes because they don’t seem to know what unbiased means) would have a problem with that?

Of course they would!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think that's apples to oranges

Dec 5, 2019, 1:30 PM

I've never seen the SEC or Big Ten as bad as the ACC is now. They have down years, but nothing like this. The ACC without Clemson would literally be rated lower than the AAC. Even with Clemson it's currently quite close. The ACC can barely be called a P5 conference this year. It's THAT bad. A 12-0 Alabama or Ohio State would almost certainly have at least a couple of good resume-boosting wins. Objectively, what is Clemson's best win? According to all of the advanced metrics, its STILL Texas A&M despite their current 7-5 record.

Also, Dabo went really heavy on the hyperbole when he said they would drop Clemson to 20 had they lost to South Carolina (not true), and that they wanted to keep Clemson out of the playoff (also not true).

Maybe he was just going really heavy on the disrespect card to motivate the team, but very little of his rant was tied to reality. The only part that is really defensible is the bit about Clemson being disrespected this year because you can certainly make a pretty good case for that.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I think that's apples to oranges

Dec 5, 2019, 3:25 PM

It’s below par this year for the ACC, but it is not as bad as people will have you believe. Watch the bowl games- the ACC won’t have the worst P5 record and will surprise some people.

Go look at the CFB standings and you will see mostly 4 and 5 loss teams where usually there are more 2 and 3 loss teams. The upper-middle of DI-A is closer to mediocre than decent. The ACC beat itself up.

I paid attention to the rhetoric this year enough to see the validity to his rant.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

All conferences beat themselves up

Dec 5, 2019, 8:01 PM

The Sunbelt and the MAC beat themselves up. Conference games are zero sum. 1 team always wins and 1 always loses. This is true whether the conference is awesome or horrible. It just so happens that the majority of the ACC is on a fairly equal level and that level is really, really bad. 9 of the 14 teams finished within 1 win of .500 in the conference. One of the better teams amongst those 9 just got annihilated by Kentucky.

The ACC was horrible OOC this year and that is where conference strength is measured.

And they are going to get slaughtered in bowls too, despite the fact that the ACC bowl tie-ins stink and routinely pit ACC teams vs G5 teams or lower finishing P5 teams from other conferences.

All the talk was about how they needed new someone new in the polls, but they didn't seem to mind when it was Alabama who moved up to number 1. There is no truth to those pundits. Face it, they are secheat homers, for sure, and if it can't be an secheat team, then it's all about OSU, or one of their other darlings. Hope ugay gets stomped this weekend, and then we get to stomp LSU in one of the final 4 of the playoffs.

GO TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I will say it

What Dabo is really saying Is that Clemson should be ranked number one by the committee. And they should have been there in the first rankings. And there is absolutely no reason they should not be. They are clearly the best team in the country, have won 27 games in a row, and the fact that they coast until mid season while working on things and then start ramping up for the playoffs is a testament to how the coaches and players handle their business. But Dabo can’t say that so he talks about us being out which is a reference to us starting out at 5 and us not being No 1. I will also say it. When Trevor heads to the NFL, the Tigers will have won 45 games in a row and will finally be recognized as the counterpart dynasty to UCLA basketball of the late 60s and early 70s. Let’s take care of business this weekend and then get ready to romp in the playoffs. Bring on Ohio State, LSU, whoever. It doesn’t matter. This team is better than last year’s team top to bottom.

It was ONE freaking comment in response to a question from a reporter. I am sick of people like Finebaum taking shots at Dabo anytime he sticks up for his team. Finebaum said every year is a clean slate and we don't deserve to be #1 just because we are the undefeated reigning national champions. WHAT A CROCK OF S#IT. I find it ridiculous and sickening that that is the logic applied when Clemson is the winner, meanwhile, if Alabama wins the title they stay at #1 as long as they keep winning and if they lose 1, the committee does everything in their power to keep them in the top 4. It's not that they don't want to hear Dabo complain, it's that ESPN and the SEC Network, which is about the same thing, don't want to have to justify and address their obvious bias. I'm pretty sure Dabo would not feel the way he does if the committee had not put us, who at the time had a 24 game winning streak, at 5th in the initial rankings...behind freaking Penn State whose best win was against a highly overrated Michigan team. Golic and Fowler, and Finebaum and all the rest are just butthurt because Dabo won't eat the crap sandwich they are serving us with a smile.

Since you’re wearing a Notre Dame T-shirt let me tell you what else people don’t want to hear they are sick of hearing about Notre Dame. They are overrated every year play relatively nobody and yet yak yak yak. While they eat their foie gras omelettes the rest of the teams eat pizza prior to playing for a conference title. So as far as I’m concerned you can stick it !
