I agree with you, but I think he was going off their FPI percentages for how likely we are to win the games on our schedule. I'm guessing the FPI is putting a good amount of stock into us having home field advantage against A&M while playing on the road against South Carolina.

Let the talking heads do their talking heads thing.

Even *IF* (notice I'm not saying that 'though', but rather 'if') our ACC schedule were weaker than an SEC schedule, is that really our fault?

What are we supposed to do? Go back to 1953 and tell our university that we shouldn't join the ACC, because in 65+ years, some people won't think it's the best conference?

Pffffft

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

spot on

Apr 18, 2019, 9:23 AM

This has always been my argument. What are we supposed to do about it? Beg to get out and join the SEC......why?! We’re doing just fine beating our teams and theirs. It’s such a weak argument that it has become flat out laughable. Let them keep reaching......we’ll keep playing Clemson football. That’s what they fail to realize. The opponent doesn’t matter......it’s the process that out guys are coached. Play Clemson ball......period.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Plus, its not really that "weak" or "soft"

Apr 18, 2019, 2:07 PM

There usually are only a couple of good teams in the secheat each year, also. Very overrated and propped up by their own secheat network .

Re: spot on

Apr 18, 2019, 2:24 PM [ in reply to spot on ]

If the Tigers were magically placed in the SEC and continued to win conference and national championships, what would be the excuse for a weak schedule then? ESecPN just don't get it.

All the major teams have 18 to 21 year olds that are close to the same talent level and it doesn't matter which conference they're in. What matters is how they are nurtured, developed and coached. Dabo and the Tiger coaching staff has figured it out. It wouldn't matter who they play because the schedule would still seem weak! Go Tigers and keep winning the hand you're dealt. Forget these SEC idiots!!

Luckily we started winning by 32, 27, and 28 in the ACC Championship, Cotton Bowl, and National Championship. If only we could schedule top five teams from other conferences like the SEC for every game, we could double that spread!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

off Alabama's throat. We would have scored at least two more touchdowns. 58-16 has a little better of a ring to it, and will stay in the history books longer as their worst beatdown.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: ESPN analyst: "Clemson's schedule is so soft"

Apr 18, 2019, 9:13 AM

No doubt the ACC has to man up, and after a promising start by replacing some okay coaches with apparently really good ones, maybe a reboot is in order. But if one wants to check SOS, in the last four years Clemson has won six games against championship (conference, NC) competition) and lost twice. And is 2-2 against the mighty SEC in NC play. (And let's just ignore Texas A&M and Auburn. What the heck.)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: ESPN analyst: "Clemson's schedule is so soft"

Of course it's a lame argument. I could understand the narrative if after the regular season Clemson got blown out by the 1st ranked team they played, but as we all know that hasn't been the case. Without having to post numbers, Dabo and company have the post season record to silence all nonbelievers.

criticism.

It's just played out. Last year's strength of schedule was in line with most of the playoff teams. Then with all teams having a significant amount of time off (meaning there's no "We were beat down by our schedule" argument to be made), we absolutely obliterated Notre Dame and Bama.

Apr 18, 2019, 9:21 AM

otherwise?

The best the SEC has to offer, Alabama, starts off w/ Duke, New Mexico St, SCar, and Southern Miss. They have W. Carolina the week before Auburn.

They get Ole Miss, Ark, Tenn, and LSU at home. Their toughest game is probably @ aTm and they go to Auburn and Miss St.

We both play aTm and SCar.

UGA's schedule is only slightly tougher than Alabama's because they host ND and play an improving FL team in Jacksonville but they don't play LSU this year. They also play both SCar and aTm, both at home.

Screw the SEC and the 2.0 GPA most of them rode in on. Clemson will play ANY of you, any time, any field, any day...and beat your brains out.

Plus all "a soft schedule' means is we have no margin for error. Means we HAVE to win every game we play in order to qualify for the CFP. And thats why this guy is saying all this. He's trying to set up the narrative so we won't have credit if we drop a game and/or trying preserve the Heisman trophy for Tua due to Trevor's stats given our "soft" schedule.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Two thoughts on this

Apr 18, 2019, 10:05 AM

Perhaps that's true. But no team can help how strong their opponent is at the time the game is played. Five years ago, who'd've thought FSU would be as bad as they are and that Syracuse would be our biggest competition in the Atlantic?? No one knows how good or bad any team will be on any given weekend, in any conference. Our sched could end up harder, or even easier. It's impossible to really say.

Second, that's why we have a playoff. If I recall correctly, we beat TWO undefeated teams last year in the playoffs, both highly rated and respected. And we not only beat them, it was a beat down! They were epic blow-outs of the 2 of the 3 media darlings (the other being Ohio St).

Regular season schedule strength is a non-factor. No one can help how good their opponents are on a given weekend. Win 'em all. That's all you need. We did it last year. We've got the team to do it again this year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Their opinions don’t matter they aren’t on the committee.

Apr 18, 2019, 10:16 AM

You’d think by now that you can’t judge a schedule until after the season.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Who cares?

Apr 18, 2019, 10:29 AM

Yes, our regular season schedule is soft. That doesn't mean we aren't the best team in the country. Our schedule was soft last year too, and then when we got into the playoff with the big boys won both games by 4 TDs.

Soft schedule vs tough schedule just means we win the games by more points.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wont know how soft it is until after the season***

Apr 18, 2019, 2:05 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

it is not a hard schedule...

Apr 18, 2019, 10:38 AM

but the only difference between our schedule and the next comparable team (Alabama) is that LSU is better than say BC. But how much better? It is all speculation. The point is, we make to the post-season and WIN BIG.

This kind of talk is about building that SEC bias day in and day out with that crowd on the Finebaum show.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ain't no denying that it's very soft at this point,

Apr 18, 2019, 11:17 AM

but you never know who will be improved. Will FSU improve? Will Louisville or Tech be improved with new coaches? State?

Doubtful this year, just glad we don't play that powerhouse, UVA(28-0).

Still you guys shouldn't be so defensive about it. Huge chance that it will be one of the weakest in the country.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: TNET: ESPN analyst: "Clemson's schedule is so soft"

Apr 18, 2019, 11:45 AM

This talk doesn't bother me really, especially since it hasn't prevented us from getting into the CFP in any of the past 4 years, and we even lost a game in 2 of those seasons. People who talk like this would maybe have a point if Clemson wasn't trying to go out and schedule teams OOC each year like Auburn, Georgia, A&M, etc... as it would be easy for us to say we play South Carolina OOC each year and go out and schedule 3 cupcakes to go along with them.

This talk would only really bother me if we had a reputation of taking advantage of an easy schedule to make the CFP and always losing in the 1st round. A few ignorant South Carolina fans would like to pretend that we're like ND has been, and we're overrated on beating a bunch of bad teams. However, no logical fan can deny that we've done more than enough to justify our rankings by beating several elite OOC teams in both the regular and post season.

I don't even think that the media people who make comments like the one this guy made are even trying to say that we aren't good, or we don't deserve our spot. Whenever I've heard comments like this one it's typically been from a standpoint of saying we should be back in the CFP again next year because there isn't a real challenge for us on the schedule. If we miss the CFP it'll either be because we had a ton of injuries, or because we were massively upset 1 or 2 times.

Last year, for instance, Texas A&M, Georgia Tech, Syracuse, Boston College, USC and Notre Dame ALL gave us a better game than Alabama did in the Natty. We beat 'Bama by 28 points in the Natty but beat all of those six teams by less. Three of those teams were in the ACC, by the way. Clemson will continue to have a 'soft schedule' until someone can 'man-up' and find the formula to beat us. I don't see it happening anytime soon. To be the best, you have to beat the best and Clemson is obviously heads and shoulders above everyone currently. So, our 'schedule' is going to continue to be soft until a challenger emerges. At least, that's the way it looks to me. Go Tigers!

Typical propaganda. Say or call it the easiest in the power 5 without a shred of evidence. And i always heard, keep you mouth shut, even if everyone in the room thinks you’re dumb on a subject, don’t open your mouth and confirm it. He must be an idiot, if he thinks USUC is our toughest game.

Three things:
1. It’s not Clemson’s fault or within Clemson’s control that FSU tanked, Louisville bombed, & no one in the Coastal been any good.
2. Clemson beats the good teams when they play them too. Only Alabama has beaten Clemson when it mattered of late.
3. USuC isn’t helping one bit. Can we swap them for UGA to help with this scheduling PR thing?

We beat the good teams when we play them as well! Some of them we make look like "weak teams"! 44-16. 30-3.
These people need to stop already! They really are making themselves look like donkeys!

Our season record and collapsed to the other competition, but Clemson left no doubt of who was superior in the playoffs too.
