Dabonomics: Inside Swinney's new contract and how the past and present affect it

Dan Radakovich and Graham Neff called it The Swinney Effect. It might as well be called Dabonomics. Swinney is set to make $8.25 million in the first two years of the new deal, increasing to $10 million in 2028, the last year of the contract.

I don't think that my arithmetic education that was offered in the public schools back in my years starting in 1959, and ending with mathematics 1971 was enough ed u my cation to figure out Dabo's contract... So I'm going to trust that you really smart people of higher learning are going to keep up with exactly what's going on with the head coaching contract. Some may even think that it's shameful that I don't understand much of what was talked about in Dabo's contract, but in my defense, I learned what was taught in my schooling days, and the number 1 reason they didn't close the schools down after I went through, was to keep making people smarter like the ones that actually understand Dabo's contract today. Rest assured that the day will come when you smart fellows will be as lost as I am with the contracts made 50 years from now, so pat yourself on the back now bc, the day will come if you live long enough, those pats on the back will one day be very few bc, Time don't wait on anybody!!! allorangeallthetime52 ;)

I'm glad they know what it involves. To me, there is another "Dabo value", the money that is being invested in the city of Clemson is unbelievable. Take a look at the construction that has been done in the last ten years. It is crazy. If you don't think Dabo and football didn't help generate this, you are crazy. He is fantastic for the team, for the school, for the city, and for the state!
GO TIGERS!!!

Off campus true, but On campus too!

The increased applications of academically eligible out of state applicants has increased the University's coffers. There's the flip side of that that many of have experienced trying to get in state students into the school. Especially those who have no interest in the tech school transfer route.

Outstanding post DH. I also appreciate Clemson sharing the impact on regional and national interest in our university. It's great we retain the best university in our great state, but are expanding our wings in recruiting and admissions. Dabo has much to do with this, and assuridly has everything to do with our success on the gridiron. His new contract is earned, not a gratuitous gift for hopeful success like some coaches are getting. Go Tigers!

Drilling More into the Numbers. Impressive Rise in All

Things Clemson. Agree 100% with the comment that the whole university and community have seen tremendous growth and value. And IT WILL CONTINUE. Invest in Clemson as the ROI will only go up.

I am glad we are committing to him. However, I would have like to see those numbers against a "control" sample - a comparable school and the national average. It should also normalize the dollars to some baseline year. Ya gotta scrutinize and think critically!

All of that being said, I am very glad we are doing what we can to keep.him here.

Yes, Football/Dabo's Success trickles down to all

Apr 30, 2019, 10:27 AM

This is a great example of a trickle down theory that works. All one has to do is look around Clemson, indeed the Upstate. The transformation is remarkable. I remember walking around Clemson area in 2010 and seeing some pretty dumpy buildings ... its all been renovated. Restaurant crowded and they want 48 dollars for a rib-eye steak and get it ?! Can we name that restaurant ?

So a new upper deck in 2022?

Apr 30, 2019, 10:56 AM

According the slide show, the athletic department is expecting a $1.73 million dollar surplus in fiscal year 2019, followed by surpluses of 1.8 million (2020), 1.88 million (2021),$1.3 million (2022),and $2.46 million in the years that follow

Something is costing a lot of money in 2022 and it's going to bring in a lot of money to follow...

Thank you Dan Radakovich, the Board of Trustees, and to the Clemson Administration for making this happen.

As a 1996 alum, I often wondered if we were' ever going to get "our act together" in football. Watching our BOT and administration fumble all over themselves for nearly two decades in an attempt to keep Clemson from looking like a "football school" was incredibly frustrating. It seemed as if Clemson was intent on playing football games with one hand tied behind our back so the Wake Forest's and South Carolina's of the world could feel good about themselves. Not anymore.

We've got great leadership now, and they love winning. Dabo is a generational coach who's a perfect fit. He's the right guy at the right time, and he's just getting started.

Thank you Clemson Administration, BOT, and DRAD for making this happen. Most of all, thank you, Dabo for the way you represent Clemson University.

DH, any word on Dabo sharing this bounty with his assistant coaches (and their wives) as he has done in the past? Remember, happy wife, happy life!
