I don't understand what the deal is with different conferences playing each other. COVID transfers from person to person... it doesn't care what conference you're in. This makes no sense to me. If it's safe enough to play against an ACC team, why is it not safe enough to play against an SCE?
I say, let them play!!!!!!!!

It has to do with guidelines the ACC will enforce for dealing with the virus such as testing, travel, checking fevers, cleaning, etc... The ACC can set guidelines for its members, but they have no power over what other conferences will do. In theory, another major conference like the SEC will probably have the same or at least very similar guidelines which would make it possible for Clemson to play South Carolina. However, it's doubtful that a smaller school from a smaller conference could afford the cost of following those same guidelines.
It's easier to say all non-conference games are cancelled instead of only those from certain conferences which would only create confusion as well as unbalanced schedules. The conferences would always have the option of adding out of conference games later if it turns out they have similar guidelines.

If true, I really respect the SEC for this move. Anyone who wants to see the coots get mud holed is a friend of mine.

It’s a win for the SEC. GA gets to play Ga Tech, UF gets to play FLST and KY plays Loserville. SEC could easily go 3-1 with the chickens being their only loss out of conference. They will readily sacrifice the chickens for bragging rights about how much better the SEC is than the ACC. Not to mention the hit it will put on Clemson’s strength of schedule if all of those teams lose....

Let's hope we have some sort of season with or without fans and something can be worked out the out of conference rivalry games will be played.

I've never thought of Swoffie as a 'silent assassin'.
I'd think he's more in the category of 'silent but deadly'...
