For those of you wondering about why the defense has some

Sep 24, 2012, 8:10 PM

holes this year don't forget what happened when Bowden was shown the door.

This was a point I talked about last year, but in some ways this is an issue right now.

yeah not like we've had any classes since to shore up for the guy we lost

It was more than "a guy". It's also a fact that there were

some play-makers in that class which could have still been at Clemson.

I know there have been classes, but as you know sometimes recruits don't pan out and if we had the #1 safety in America plus some other guys who could have been seniors this year.

It doesn't make up for all our issues, but it has to be a part of the deal.

Appreciate the effort Swann. It probablly is part of it.

I think that is only a valid point if you apply to the ones that got away.... We should have enough talent to play defense four years removed from Bowden. I am not just talking about FSU, but over the last two years. This year we have the worst defense in the history of Clemson football.

I would blame this on our failure to assess talent.

2013 class is gonna go a long way to fixing the defense***

but it wont fix the experience aspect

if those guys can play they will be young. the second most popular crutch here.

Plus where are the lockdown corners in this class?

That class hurt our depth pretty bad.Devonte Holloman was a commit as well for that class, also so was Sam Montgomery and he is a beast at lsu.Only thing that worries me about Dabo and staff is they seem to live and die by the 4 and 5 star prospects at times, and we let some of the 3 star guys that could develop into solid players go elsewhere.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep- very true. Those two at LSU most likely would be at

Sep 24, 2012, 8:33 PM

Clemson right now. Hurts when you look at where we are struggling right now.

LS, name your starting line up on D.

I would go with Reader, Williams, Goodman, and Beasley, then Steward, Willard, and Townsend
then, Breland and Anybody but 21 at CB, then Blanks and Meeks at Safety (at least Meeks will actually hit you)

If we are going to play Young Card with the media, then we should actually play them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I am assuming we are related so I will answer you cousin-

Sep 24, 2012, 9:34 PM

I think it's much harder to pin point a starting 11 on D because of matchups.

If it were me right now, based on what I have seen.

DL- Vic Beasley (dude has a high motor), Goodman (but Barnes would be on his heels.) - Williams, Reader.
LB- Willard, Anthony, Steward - I might even try moving Anthony outside and Steward inside as I think he has more power and less speed to the edges.
DB - Breeland, Blanks, Meeks, Brewer

Problem is, it's easy to look at it from the outside, but clearly the coaching staff sees a lot more than we do at practice so you have to judge them by that.

That's the most talented list I could come up with, but as a I said D is so fluid starting, not starting isn't a huge deal.

Swann, if our starters used sound fundamentals when tackling

Sep 24, 2012, 9:01 PM

we would've won that game. Any college level player, at any level, should understand the basics of tackling.

I can't even count high enough to mention all the helment/shoulder pad attempts at tackling I saw on Saturday but there were enough to cost us a game.

One would think that after the OB, the problem would be working itself out and we'd be improving.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'll give some of the credit to FSU's running backs

Sep 24, 2012, 9:18 PM

continuing to pump their legs when running. They ran through our tackles for sure. Let's also mention the bad angles that were taken too.

Their O-line got to the second level, turned guys and opened huge holes late.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpgtnt_user_logo.pngbadge-ringofhonor-elswann.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, there are other issues but at the core of our problems

Sep 24, 2012, 9:26 PM

is a lack of fundamental tackling. I rarely see us attack the ball and when we get there, we NEVER wrap up.

I saw Werner running to his left, tied up by our OL yet he still got to Sammy, WRAPPED him up, and tackled him for a 2 yard gain.

We don't even hit their RB until he's 4-5 yards downfield.

Re: Swann, if our starters used sound fundamentals when tackling

Sep 24, 2012, 9:26 PM [ in reply to Swann, if our starters used sound fundamentals when tackling ]

The linebackers were transparent the entire game they couldn't get off blocks. You can't rely our db's to tackle every play, especially someone the size of Wilder Jr.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Werner fought off our OL while running sideways to

Sep 24, 2012, 9:34 PM

stop sammy on a jet sweep for a 2 yard gain.

We got caught up and couldn't break free and they ran all over us.

It kills me to watch that happen to Clemson so frequently.
