This search is becoming a comedy of Gamecock proportion.

I'm surprised by the Steele news

Not because I thought he would be a good hire, but because I've been hearing he had the support of some big money donors. If Auburn hires Napier, that probably makes Tennessee the favorite to get Hugh Freeze next year.

I have a hard time imagining that Shane Beamer is a better hire than Napier.

I doubt he was ever seriously considered.***

Steele, so that was either faulty information spreading around, or the AD had enough cajones to overrule them.

If this story is true (it appears to have been written before Napier withdrew) that means that Auburn has found their guy.

I would expect that guy to be Neal Brown. If not him then Bill Clark.

If neither of them, then I'm clueless. (Fans will be saying that they got Freeze or Kiffin, but I would be surprised at either of them now.)

Supposedly, Bill Clark is receiving a second interview.
