Seth Beer: Which former Tiger player does he remind you of?

Mar 21, 2016, 3:42 PM

Overall, I'm going to say Tyler Colvin ... although Beer may be a better freshman than Tyler was.

For me, the walk off HR last night brought to mind Colvin's towering drive to win the regional against Oral Roberts a few years ago.

I went absolutely nuts about the time it came off the bat. Everyone knew it was gone immediately. Loudest crowd reaction I've ever heard at a game.

There is no comparison for Seth. He is the standard. Never seen anyone as a Freshman play like him.

Maybe Kahlil Greene?

Mar 21, 2016, 4:07 PM

If we're comparing freshman to freshman ...

That's who I thought of also. He's the best I've seen in Tiger Town. Guy had full control at the plate

Yep, also thinking back, Shane Monahan was a great freshman.***

Shane Monahan.

Agreed.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Don't Forget Jeff Baker

Mar 21, 2016, 4:15 PM [ in reply to Re: Maybe Kahlil Greene? ]

Khalil came to Clemson as the 3rd baseman and Baker the shortstop their freshman years. Baker could straight up swing it. But Beer's left handed swing does look like Colvin's. Beer is something special. Great time to be a Tiger with Watson and Beer right now. Pretty special talents the likes we haven't seen here in some time...if ever.

Ah, those were some fun times. Sure, the football team was

average and the basketball team was a stinker, but we always had baseball.

Colvin immediately came to mind, but Beer is better!

Walling only played one season @ CU but wow, what a season!

Mar 21, 2016, 7:16 PM [ in reply to Denny Walling*** ]

He transferred to Clemson from a community college in NJ and was a Tiger for the 1975 season before going pro.

His 1975 season was one of the all time best single seasons for a Clemson player.

Use to hang out with Denny and hit a few choice spots. He was the best college player I was around.

2016 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS

As a freshman he reminds me of Patrick Boyd

Mar 21, 2016, 7:42 PM

Boyd had lots of injury problems after his first year but he was a 5 tool player that if the fences had been where they are now would have hit 25+ home runs his freshman year. It seemed like every game his first year he had a ball caught with the fielder against the center field fence. Boyd had a great arm as well. We still do not know a lot about Beer's arm. Yesterday's throw was great and on the money but only about 150 from home. But right now Beer is electric. In fact they can start calling DKS the "Beer Joint".

Patrick Boyd was a Freshman in 1998
BA - .344
Led the Team in Walks - 44, AB - 241, Runs - 66 He also started all 58 games in Center Field.

In his Soph Year he hit .390 with 17 HR, 171 Total Bases, and a.695 slugging perct.

Interestingly Denny Walling had a great season for the Tigers in 1975 (His Only Season) but he was a Jr.

George Sutton

Mar 21, 2016, 7:51 PM

1966 Season - George Sutton set the record for the fastest to 10 home runs by hitting 10 home runs in 18 games. His 10th homer came against Wake Forest on April 23, 1966.

Power wise he reminds me of...

Mar 21, 2016, 10:19 PM

Kris Harvey.

He's a much better player than Kris, but when I was in school and watched Kris play the sound of the ball coming off of his bat and how ### far he hit the ball... It's mighty similar. More impressive with Seth now cuz we ain't in the gorilla ball era of college baseball.
