After 45 plus years of watching Clemson basketball, I learned a long time ago we aren’t ever going to be an elite basketball team. Enjoy the successes when they come and know that reality shows back up quickly. I love the game and love Clemson, that’s why I keep watching!

but can we be better is the real question? As a program?

There are going to be seasons where we are improved and the wins come; but let’s face it, Clemson is not a desired destination for basketball recruits unless they just love Clemson. The problem is that it has been difficult to build consistency and when it does come, those coaches use it as a catapult to a bigger, better job. Then when someone like the current coach shows up that loves Clemson, the wins are a struggle. This has always been the lifecycle of Clemson basketball.

I disagree with you on UVA. They could compete with the best of them back in the Terry Holland days. They have a history.
The bottom line is that Clemson can have everything you desire in a basketball program but it comes at a cost. . .just ask Tates Locke. Or better yet, read up on his days at Clemson in the book Caught in the Net.

basketball program. Those who can't see beyond the wall of "it's always been that way, so it always will" are wrong, and their pathetically low expectations can't be driving the bus, or it probably never will change. As soon as Clemson decides it wants to be better and commits to it, it will be.

I actually think they've made the commitment

with the facility upgrades, staff enhancements and such. They've done the honorable thing in giving the guy who did ride through some lean times commitment wise the chance to be the guy. But in my mind, he has to earn it. He hasnt yet. Last year was a big setback. For me, he has to show this team really progressing through the year. For this team, its youth and the injuries, that's a winning record and th e NIT.
He does that, with this team, I think he earns next year, as he will have built a pretty solid foundation for the next several years. But if we stall out? I personally believe it would be time for a new direction
