SALUTING MEMORIAL DAY...Roll call of TigerNetters

May 26, 2013, 8:42 AM

on active duty, those who have previously served, and those preparing to serve. Tell us your branch of service, rank, period of duty with highlights of service. (Yes, all TNetters...including our Gamecock and Dawg posters.) If you were in the ROTC programs, include that info.

We salute all those who are serving, who served and those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the preservation of our lives and liberty.

Left from Spartanburg in 1985 into the USAF. Almost became a Marine but the AF recruiter stole me away with a better career offer. The Marine recruiter told his supervisor that I told him, "I smoked marijuana 13 times." My Dad was then involved with the local congressman. Bad bad Marine recruiter.

85-89 air evac Only missed one football season and still made most all home games. I had my priorities straight.

One highlight was the Russian '69 incursion into Czechoslovakia which made life hectic a few weeks and produced volumes of electronic and voice traffic.

I'm the daughter & sister of AF pilots.

My dad flew O-2s in Vietnam and then flew B-52s until his untimely death at the age of 38 (not service related).

My brother flies C-130s and has served multiple times in Afghanistan & surrounding areas.

Many of my closest friends at Clemson were in AFROTC & are on active duty today, all over the place!

May 27, 2013, 7:12 PM

Shouldn't be any responses except from those who are sharing service men and women who gave their LIVES in the "full measure of devotion." Veterans day is later in the year, Come on - we at Clemson should know the difference!

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

When I created the original post, of course, I was aware

May 27, 2013, 7:58 PM

that we honor those who have given their lives in service to our nation, as I was aware that Veteran's Day has been set aside to honor all who served. However, I felt it fitting to recognize those who have served or are now serving, considering that all members of our armed forces have taken an oath of sacrifice, if necessary, in the guarantee of our lives and liberties. There was no attempt to defeat the purpose of this special day, but to remind all that thousands now are in harm's way or have been so.
