Reverse recruiting question. Who is the best recruit we

thought we had but, at the last minute, did not get? Recently it has to be Kernieski) (bad spelling), who was the number one recruit and swore all year he was coming to Clemson, but, we know know why he didn’t.
Years ago Larry Zonka (sp?) had it narrowed down to us and Syracuse, but, that was not published and we really did not know how good he was.

Hershel wanted to be in Clemson. His parents worked for dawg grads.....
It’s rumored he told his recruiter his heart wouldn’t be in it when he played Clemson. The recruiter told him don’t worry about it and always do your best.

We were in his Final 5 and he didn’t really tip his hand til Signing Day when he duped Nebraska by wearing a red shirt to his High School and then picking Florida.

Hershel! He wanted to come, but the fact that his Uncle sold every car in his used car lot a week before signing, Dooley creating a women’s track team and offering Hershel’s sister the first scholarship, and the peer pressure he had living in Georgia, was just too much to overcome for a really nice 18 year old kid. He really did not have a choice.

part of the gronk deal was his brother wanting to transfer in . he was on a football ship at Md and wanted to come here to play baseball. jack was willing to take him, but md was still in the ACC at the time and even though he was changing sports, the ACC basically didn't allow in league transfers, so the deal fell apart.

5. Herschel Walker 4. Herschel Walker 3. Herschel Walker 2. Herschel Walker 1. Tony Rice
That’s right. The failure to land Tony Rice was the difference between a 1988 national championship and our streak of 10-2 seasons. Tony played at Woodruff high school under Coach Varner. He was the perfect option quarterback for the late 1980s Danny Ford teams that all had great defenses. When Notre Dame won the 1988 national championship, all I could think was that Tony won the championship with the wrong team. Tony is the most important recruit we missed because with him we win a championship, without him 10-2. Rodney Williams was great for Clemson, but Tony was national championship material.
