Rainy day thought about the CFP

Nov 12, 2020, 11:57 AM

So we're now at the end of the season and the following scenario takes place, who goes to the CFP and how are they ranked. The number after the team is their current ranking.

Games numbers may very base on postponement

1. Clemson (4) wins out, wins ACC Championship 11-1
2. ND (2) wins out but loses ACC Championship 11-1
3. Miami (9) wins out 10-1
4. Alabama (1) wins out, loses SEC Championship 10 -1
5. Florida (5) wins out, wins SEC Championship 10 -1
6. OSU (3) wins out, loses BIG Championship 8-1
7. Wisconsin (14) wins out, wins BIG Championship 7-0
8. Ok State (13) wins out and Big 12 Championship 9-1
9. Liberty (22) wins out 11-0
10. Cincinnati (7) wins out 10-1
11. BYU (8) wins out 10-0

Clemson
Florida
Wisconsin
BYU

I struggle with what to do with these two: Alabama & Ohio State

You are correct with the four teams in the playoffs, with that scenario.
For bama and osu?? Put them in the "I don't want to be here Bowl"
Bama 21
OcryO St 17

Natl Champs: CU Tigers...it's an every even year thing. 16, 18, 20.

and if they win out, they will remain so . . .

Your guess is as good as mine . . . probably better.

Only because its 2020 I could see ESPN getting us to this

Nov 12, 2020, 12:17 PM

1-Bama
2-Georgia
3-Texas A&M
4-Florida

...or maybe not...idk

Ohio State

Nov 12, 2020, 12:33 PM

Ohio State's game has been cancelled this week which means they will now play 7 regular season games. So what happens if their game with Indiana gets cancelled and Indiana wins the rest of their games? If this happens Indiana would end up 7-0 while Ohio State would be 6-0 and Indiana would win the division with the better record?

What would this do to the playoffs?

They say the committee emphasizes conference championship winners though they've let a couple of non-conference winners in here and there...

1 Florida SEC champ
2 Alabama SEC runnerup
3 Clemson ACC champ
4 Wisconsin BIG 10 champ

Though this, in my opinion, is a rare instance where Ohio State should still get in over Wisconsin.

What about Ok State as a champion over runner up Alabama***

For rainy day arguments sake...Oregon wins its seven games, including over undefeated Washington and higher ranked real USC in the Pac12 championship game. All games are won by large margins? 7-0, no missed games due to the rona, d is highly regarded and offense puts up big scores every week?

6 Teams

Nov 12, 2020, 1:06 PM

Top 2 get a bye. With your scenario, there will be some angry teams left out. Add 2 for this year only, 3 weekends of championship football. Sign me up.

I am in favor of making Conference Championships mean something - they are the "first round" of a playoff in my book. Lose your conference, go to the Gator Bowl.
