Former Alabama player and coach Ray Perkins, who has passed just days after his 79th birthday. Coach Perkins had a number of head coaching stops including Alabama, and Arkansas State as well as with the New York Giants and Tampa Bay Bucs.
He had some kind of accident before he played for Alabama and had a metal plate in his head. No medical staff would allow him to play now. He became a great receiver and had some amazing catches in Bama's 1965 NC win over Nebraska. He was a good NFL WR also before getting into coaching.
He replaced the Bear as Bama's HC which was impossible to their fans.
