Took no bs off any hitter. Chin music master. I think he may have had a brief stint with the Harlem Globetrotters too. He owned the inside part of the plate.

My favorite pitcher of all time. I think his ERA was 1.12 in ‘67 or ‘68.

One of the greatest pitchers I have ever seen. Batters knew that near 100 mph was coming inside and sometimes head high.

Watched him do this on TV when I was a kid:

Pitched three complete-game victories in the 1967 World Series. In 1968 he posted a 1.12 ERA for the season and then recorded 17 strikeouts in Game 1 of the 1968 World Series.

Brock, Sayers, and now this. All my sports heroes. Wheen I live in St Louis and he and Stan would go by to a suite the crowd would stop and stare like as if the Pope went by
