If ND is a big underdog to Bama who would you put there who wouldnt be? A&M and Ga both got handled by them easily. People annoyed that so far Clemson and Bama need to get over it. Going to 8 does nothing to change that

to that would be that those teams that are consistently in the top 8 would improve in recruiting incrementally thus spreading out talent among more teams. But who knows if that would end up being the case either.

want to be trailblazers at another school, instead of the latest cog in the machine at Alabama or Clemson. But, that is at least a few years down the road, probably when Saban retires.

5+3 and then see what happens
this is the logic based on Bias - the same reason Watson didn't win the Heisman. too much influence by stupid people hired by espn with opinions and bias.
Why didn't AP vote TL to the first team ALL American - just stupid.
let each conference champ in and enjoy saying they played in the CFP
as someone said below - it would help recruiting and help even the field.

They can expand the CFP field but at the end of the day, more often than not, Clemson and Bama will continue to dominate.

Going to 8 is less about the national champion and more about having more meaningful college football in the post season. As a reminder the matchups would have been (I employed the committee's logic and adjusted the rankings to avoid certain matchups)
Cotton Bowl Alabama vs. Oregon
Rose Bowl (Alabama/Oregon) vs (Notre Dame/Oklahoma)
Orange Bowl Notre Dame vs. Oklahoma CFP National Championship
Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl Clemson vs Cincinnati
Sugar Bowl (Clemson/Cincinnati) vs. (Ohio State/A&M) Fiesta Bowl Ohio State vs. Texas A&M
Yes, Alabama and Clemson will blow out the first matchup, It's a reward being one of the top two teams, which use to be all who made it. The other two would be competitive and give the winner a huge boost in perception and excitement heading into the semifinal. And yes, the championship will most likely be the same, but by doing it you have drawn interest from every region and added more meaningful football during the season as now a conference will never be out of the hunt and after.

For the postseason. How long will that keep the public’s interest?

Not sure how going to 8, then 16 (because I can assure you the people whining for 8 will immediately start whining for 16 using the exact same logic they do now), will do anything other than make it less likely the best team ultimately wins it all. College basketball let's everybody in and the highest ranked team(s) usually end up not winning the championship. Its just whoever gets hot at the right time. Football is probably a bit less prone to that but its still not going to help anyones program to get beat by 40 in the "playoffs".

all that's needed. Going to 8 doesn't great a lot of anything except chances for the best teams to have a catastrophic injury, or this year for the covid to jump up and bite a team.
If ALL of the power 5 conferences were really good, you might have an argument for a 6 team playoff, with the 6th being the top non-power 5 team. MIGHT. But so far the 1-per-conference in the final 4 has worked well.
And don't get me started on alabama getting in without playing in conference championship game the year they beat us in sugar bowl. WIN YOUR CONFERENCE!

Going to 8 is only about money. Only reason we needed up with a 4 team playoff was the legitimate concern that the BCS system could leave out an undefeated Power 5 conference champ. We need some competitive semifinals before there is a true argument for going to 8. We have had one competitive semifinal.
