Official word on FSU game being cancelled?

Nov 29, 2020, 9:05 PM

I see where FSU is still holding out hope this game happens...

Does anyone know ...

-Can the ACC compel Clemson to play?
-When will anyone official word come on a cancellation or reschedule?

IMO Clemson has no reason to play this game - and we shouldn’t ...

Just take the rest and get ready for the post season...

It may become moot because I half expect FSU to cancel their season..

The ACC can penalize Clemson for not playing a rescheduled game.

It is not a sure thing if it will be rescheduled or not.

But if it gets rescheduled, then Clemson would have to play it.

Couldn’t we just “disagree” with their medical staff and call it a day?

IF it gets rescheduled, we should cancel on Dec 11 due to Wuhan concerns.

"due to lack of transparency in FSU COVID protocols, our medical staff has advised us not to play the game"

Simple, true, unquestionable.

And by the same token FSU could cancel the make up game too.

The ACC may be able to force us to play, BUT it would be

Nov 29, 2020, 9:30 PM

wrong to force us to travel to FSU without first compensating us for all expenses related to the cancellation of the first game, and guaranteeing our travel expenses in the event the game is cancelled again. I don't expect that to happen, because I don't expect the ACC to do the right thing when faced with a tough problem like this when it's easier to do nothing and blab some nonsensical excuse while pretending to focus on the health and safety of the student athlete.

I really don't think FSU wants to play this game. They know they will facing some angry Tigers.

I suspect you are right.***

Clemson and Miami have same record. If Miami is 10-1 and Clemson is 9-1 doesn't Miami have the better winning percentage?? Seems like we have to play if Miami plays all their games.

Please stop with these...for the 100th time....

Nov 29, 2020, 10:06 PM

Clemson and Miami do not have the same record!

Clemson is currently 7-1
Miami is 6-1

Clemson plays VT on Dec. 5

Miami now plays Duke on 12/5 and UNC on 12/12.

After 12/12 both teams could be 8-1.

Clemson has head to head.

ACC Championship game is 12/19

Miami has a rescheduled game with GT on 12/19

There is no way Miami is a concern....and they haven’t been for several weeks.

Indeed, and to clarify a bit

All that matters at this point is that we play enough games to qualify for the ACCCG (and of course not lose again). That standard for being eligible is to play no more than 1 less game than the average number of games played by each team in the ACC (rounded to the closest integer). This year win% isn't effectively used, rather it is being eligible by number of games played, and then number of losses. Then, as you said, we'd have head to head over Miami.

To the point of our eligibility...

Currently 60 ACC games have been played, that means each team has played an average of 8 games. (60 * 2 / 15). Since Clemson has played 8 games already the only way we wouldn't be eligible is if the average number of games played is 9.5 (thus rounding to 10) and we don't play another. To reach the 9.5 game average, there would have to be 9.5 * 15 / 2 ACC games played. That would require 72 total ACC games be played, meaning 12 additional games would have to be played (and we couldn't be part of them, else we'd be eligible).

Before tonight, these were the outstanding games:

1)CLEM at FSU 5)FSU at DUKE 9)GT at NCST 13)ND at WF
2)GT at MIAMI 6)SYR at ND 10)MIAMI at WF 14)UNC at MIAMI
3)WF at DUKE 7)BC at UVA 11)PITT at GT 15)WF at LOU
4)UVA at FSU 8)CLEM at VT 12)UVA at VT

It's been announced that the FSU at DUKE game has been changed to MIAMI at DUKE. Additionally the GT at MIAMI and WF at LOU games are schedule to be played on 12/19 and by rule can have no bearing on the standings. SO that would mean these are the games that will potentially effect standings (and eligibility):

1)CLEM at FSU 5)SYR at ND 9)MIAMI at WF 13)UNC at MIAMI
2)WF at DUKE 6)BC at UVA 10)PITT at GT
3)UVA at FSU 7)CLEM at VT 11)UVA at VT
4)MIAMI at DUKE 8)GT at NCST 12)ND at WF

That's 13 games, and we are in 2 of them, so we will, no matter what, meet the criteria for eligibility.

Long story short, relax, we're good. Everything is within our control.

In 2-way tie, head to head is first, as long as you have

Nov 29, 2020, 10:59 PM [ in reply to Re: Official word on FSU game being cancelled? ]

played enough games to qualify for ACCCG. Good explanation above about the no more than one less than league average number of conference games played.

Just noticed they canceled Duke...

I think they are done now.
