We need Softball!! ACC championship on

May 9, 2015, 1:11 PM

TV right now. It's silly that we don't have it

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Imagine having a job where you get paid without working?

May 9, 2015, 1:14 PM

Cause that's what's happening now.

May 9, 2015, 1:41 PM

now. It's a decision to fund golf, tennis, rowing..... Softball actually ends up on tv occasionally - an indicator that someone may, just possibly watch it. May......

Re: No. Imagine having a Clemson team on tv right

May 9, 2015, 1:46 PM

you mean like somebody watches or cares about rowing? not many rowing high school programs around the area. softball team would be more expensive but a much better fit.

Did you imagine the check without going to work?

May 9, 2015, 2:26 PM

the money? Softball stadiums are expensive.

Re: OK. Where are we going to come up with

May 9, 2015, 2:46 PM

Dropping womens basketball would save us some bucks. And we could at least field a competitive team in softball.,

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: OK. Where are we going to come up with

May 9, 2015, 3:10 PM [ in reply to OK. Where are we going to come up with ]

We could use the baseball field.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We could

May 9, 2015, 5:22 PM

We would be the laughing stock of NCAA softball because of the handicap we would give ourselves with a temporary fence in the outfield, the baseball pitching mound in the infield, and the temporary wall we are going to have to install behind homeplate every game so that the backstop fits within NCAA guidelines.

Just because both are played on the same type field doesn't mean they are the same.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: We could

May 9, 2015, 7:11 PM

Yea I know that and that is what my school did every week. It's not that hard to rebuild a mound and slide a temp wall out. If you look at most games on TV you could see the field is used for other sports.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It is hard

May 9, 2015, 7:38 PM

to rebuild a good mound every couple of days. Sure you can put a pile of dirt back out there but it isn't going to hold up worth a darn because no matter how hard you pack the dirt down it doesn't compare to a permanent, settled mound.

And please show me which major conference teams play their games on multi-use fields.

FSU has a field
http://www.seminoles.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=209595988&DB_OEM_ID=32900&DB_OEM_ID=32900

GT has a field

UNC has a field
http://www.goheels.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=207662063&DB_OEM_ID=3350&SITE=UNC&DB_OEM_ID=3350

NC State has a field
http://www.gopack.com/facilities/dail-softball-stadium.html

VT has a field
http://www.hokiesports.com/softball/softballfield.html

UVA has a field
http://www.virginiasports.com/facilities/sftbl-field.html

Pitt has a field
http://www.pittsburghpanthers.com/facilities/pitt-facilities-olympic-sports-complex.html

Syracuse has a field
http://cuse.com/facilities/softball.aspx

BC has a field
http://www.bceagles.com/sports/w-softbl/spec-rel/shea-softball-field-infoNEW.html

So how well do you think we are going to be able to recruit against teams that have a stand alone facility if we were stupid enough to try and share the Doug? Recruiting is going to be hard enough as it is because the state of SC doesn't produce anywhere near enough talent for even one major program to put a competitive program on the field, so softball is going to already be facing the same problems as baseball in drawing players in....why would we want to put an even bigger handicap on them?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

She's right, Jack ain't usin it!***

lol. Other ACC teams have them. You gonna tell me these other schools make more money than us????? Its not about the money, just not sure what its about. Rowing can go by the wayside and make up for it with softball.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Rowing

May 9, 2015, 5:26 PM

Provides us with the cheapest way to offset the 85 scholarships that football uses and allows us to meet Title IX guidelines. Other than the boathouse we don;t have to fund a facility and upkeep for rowing.

Rowing has more scholarships than softball and that helps
meet Title IX requirements. Also, rowing does not require Clemson to build and maintain a stadium.

Just make those $6 cokes $7

May 9, 2015, 5:03 PM [ in reply to OK. Where are we going to come up with ]

Everyone will complain, but they'll still buy 'em.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

OK

May 9, 2015, 6:33 PM

If we sell 82k tickets and everybody buys at least one Coke that means we will make a little over $500k that way each football season.

So we will have enough to pay for a stadium at today's prices in 20 years.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: OK

May 9, 2015, 7:18 PM

Wouldn't that be per game not season? 3.5 million.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No

May 9, 2015, 7:40 PM

If all 82k fans bought one drink that would be $82k per game. Times seven home games that's not quite $575k a year.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: No

May 9, 2015, 10:38 PM

I see what your saying I was going by total cost of drink. My bad.

Looks like the missing logos are Duke, Wake, Miami, and Clemson.

And I agree that we should have softball. Softball is pretty big in the area from what I understand. It would seem to be pretty easy to recruit. Of course, swimming is also huge in the area (ie, SAIL), and I think we just cut the swim team?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would much rather have lacrosse.

May 9, 2015, 10:53 PM

It's a more popular sport, a faster growing sport, and would not be nearly as expensive. Riggs Field would be a perfect venue.

May 9, 2015, 11:34 PM

if we are going to add a sport this is the one to add and for the reason you mentioned. We wouldn't have to spend a dime on facilities.

May 10, 2015, 8:07 PM [ in reply to I would much rather have lacrosse. ]

I vote softball, I have to little girls and they are just getting started playing. I know there is no sure things but right now there is no chance for them to play at CU.

softball. It'll look the same....

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

this is one where Title IX works AGAINST women

May 11, 2015, 10:42 AM

if Clemson started softball, it would be required to build a facility that is comparable to Doug Kingsmore Stadium. That ain't happening.

You may see lacrosse and field hockey in the next few years using Riggs Field as a home stadium.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: this is one where Title IX works AGAINST women

May 11, 2015, 12:20 PM

Softball is getting very big these days. Im actually a coach and my daughter plays. Her dream is to play for Clemson but she can't. Now is the time for CU to start a program. It's only getting bigger and more exciting than baseball. JS

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

there is so much talent in this state that doesn't

May 15, 2015, 8:22 PM

Go to Clemson cause there is no team. Go Check Tyger River in Spartanburg when one of the big tourneys is in town!

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There actually isn't

May 15, 2015, 9:30 PM

that much talent that would make a difference at the major college level in SC. We are getting there, but we aren't there yet. Too many youth leagues hung on to slow pitch for far too long in this state so we are behind others states by probably 10-15 years.
