Notre Dame's 12-game Schedule vs. Power 5 Champs
Nov 1, 2017, 4:28 PM
|
|
If Notre Dame is fortunate enough to win-out remaining schedule, I still feel their regular season schedule of ONLY 12 games is a built in advantage to them.
They need to step up and join a conference and play in a conference champ game...
Weak. So weak...
I do believe they will be exposed during one of their remaining 4 games, but c'mon man - only 12 games!!
vs. all other P5's total combined season of thirteen games!

I'd say those soft opponent games are comparable to ND's vs. Temple Owls or Miami of OHIO game.
So what's your point?

If the committee proves it by putting Notre Dame in the playoff watch the Clemson's and Alabama's not bat an eye when they swap the FCS teams out with the bottom feeders of the 128.

How big do you think Clemson vs Wofford was for Clemson in '15?

Seems like it may have made the difference in having 2 Nat Champs over one in the last 2 yrs. The games matter.

Only if you lose to an FBS school does it matter. Otherwise, it's just a glorified practice. There is certainly no credit given when it comes to the CFP committee.

Losing Mike Williams in that game certainly made it matter. A football season is a war of attrition and playing one less game is a definite advantage regardless the quality of the opponent. We didn’t lose the game to Wofford but we lost arguably our 2nd best player.

We have season ending injuries in practice too
Nov 2, 2017, 1:09 PM

Most of the season ending ACL injuries that have happened to our team have occurred during practice. Same with Logan Rudolph's shoulder injury. The injury to Mike Williams was a fluke, but it wasn't the result of a torturous schedule that includes an "extra game" against a weak FCS school.

If Georgia wins the sec, USC wins the pac12 and Miami wins the AcC and ND wins out they will get in for sure imo.

ND has the media on their side like Ohio state. It’s wrong but true. When and if ND joins a conference, it will be the ACC due to the basketball affiliation. Who else would join with them to make it an even number?

Notre Dame's schedule includes
Nov 1, 2017, 6:47 PM
|
|
Temple: 3-5 (likely end the year at 5-7 or maybe 6-6) Georgia: 8-0 (likely end the year with at least 11 wins. 1st or 2nd in SEC) Boston College: 5-4 (likely end the year 8-4 or 7-5. top 5 in ACC) Michigan State: 6-2 (likely end the year 8-4. 4th in B1G) Miami OH: 3-6 (likely end the year 5-7) UNC: 1-8 (likely end the year 2-10. lol) USC: 7-2 (likely end the year 9-3. top 5 in Pac12) NC State: 6-2 (likely end the year 8-4 or 9-2. top 5 in ACC) Wake Forest: 5-3 (likely end the year 6-6 or better) Miami FL: 7-0 (likely end the year 9-2 or better. top 3 in ACC) Navy: 5-2 (likely end the year at least 6-6) Stanford: 6-2 (likely end the year 8-4 or better. top 5 in Pac12)
That means that Notre Dame would play, and theoretically beat, 6 teams from the top half of their Power5 conference. Also would have played, and lost close, to another. They potentially could easily end up playing 10 bowl teams in a season. I doubt that any other top team's schedule will have that many on it.

Our schedule will be second to theirs btw. If we win out we should be 2 at least.

I agree with you. Conference title game or not, Notre Dame is perenially in the top 10 for SoS. They don't need the conference title game if they continue to schedule good teams 12 deep.

And I agree with you. If ND goes 11-1, I think they deserve a CFP spot and there arent many scenarios out there that would result in them not getting in.
If ND is judged the equivalent of another team that wins their made for tv and money conference championship game, I think the conference champion should get the nod. But that should be one of if not the last 'tie breaker'
