No upside to playing ND in the ACCCG for us....

Dec 8, 2020, 5:13 PM

If we win the ACCCG game, ND is out and we have to play Ohio State in the semi-final. If we lose the game, we are out of the CFP. However, if we have to "Cancel due to illness," then, the playoff committee likely takes both Clemson and ND. We would be #3 and they would be #2. So, our semi-final opponent would be ND.

Yeah and ND would be considered the ACC Champs , no thank you.
Plus you’re wrong about no upside, this is a game the Tigers need to win before playing Bama.
If we bring our A game the Tigers win by 2 TDS and gain loads of confidence heading into the playoffs.
If this game gets canceled it would suck donkey d ick

CFPC had better really think hard about letting OSU in.

Dec 8, 2020, 6:44 PM

The strength of schedule argument is out the window if they let them in! They have played 1 team with a winning record and only won by 7 points.

Moving forward - how could they "go back" and act like it matters in future years; if they set the table now?

Actually this may be the first ACC title game that does

Dec 8, 2020, 5:37 PM

have an upside.

The five previous games were of no particular value or interest at all.

This one has drama and the revenge aspect going for it.

It’s a top-5 match-up. That’s what the title game should always be.

Plus ... We absolutely must win this game. Must win!

I see your point if the goal was to give us the path of least resistance to Natty. However, as a fan of Clemson football, I for one relish the opportunity to watch our Tigers play (and hopefully beat) ND, OSU, and Bama over the next three games. I also think that in order to beat Bama this year, this young team will likely need the experience of a ND rematch and OSU under their belt before title game. The fact that ND would be considered ACC champs in your scenario makes the prospect even less appealing. We need to beat them handily, exact revenge, and keep our ACC title streak rolling.

I don't buy into Notre Dame being out if they play us close

Dec 8, 2020, 5:59 PM

and lose. They would be just as deserving as any other one loss team in the country. Assuming Bama takes care of Florida as expected, Notre Dame's only real competition for that fourth spot (among Power 5's) is Bimbo's Boys. I just don't see the Committee taking any of the Group of Five teams seriously this year, with the strength of schedules they had.

Final 4: Tigers, Bammer, Bucknuts & Irish, as it should be, much rather allow those ###### from Ohio to play than a non-deserving middle of the road SEC team like A&M - they would be 6-2 or 5-3 in the ACC at this stage of the year.

Not necessarily .Clemson wins a close game, Notre Dame could still get in if OSU does not play a conference championship game.
Then say Florida beats Bama in a close game giving you 4 teams ,each with one loss ,but each that played a Conference Championship game or at least 2 more regular season games.
Granted, Clemson can't lose but wouldn't you rather risk a third match-up game than playing OSU which definitely would have a chip on their shoulder?
