Clemson Gentleman??

Oct 16, 2019, 7:41 PM

Where the heck did he go? I’ve been on this site since 95 & we’re as rude & disgusting as scar & uga fans . Let’s fix it.

Championships attract non-alum bandwagon fans.

It is the unfortunate part of being an elite program.

Sigh.

Just kidding. It is a sad state of affairs, but it is bigger than Clemson. There is just no civility in the world any more.

Is being an Alum a requirement to being a fan...?

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yes

Oct 17, 2019, 7:16 AM

Did you not scan a copy of your diploma to the site admin?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, it's not a requirement.

Oct 17, 2019, 10:36 AM [ in reply to Re: Championships attract non-alum bandwagon fans. ]

I was mostly posting that as a joke, because there have been debates here about whether alums or non-alums are better fans.

However, on a serious note, I would bet that 99.9% of bandwagon fans are not Clemson alums.

Well....yeah.... I think that’s in the definition of bang wagon fan. I would assume that an alumni couldn’t by definition be a bang wagon fan.

We’re all mercenaries on this site. The real Clemson fans are too busy leading productive lives and doing volunteer work to come here and snipe.

Yo mods where’s my September check?

From the 1967 copy of "The Rat Pact" for Clemson freshmen:

CLEMSON'S UNWRITTEN LAWS
A Clemson Genteman:

1. Speaks to every professor and every student at every opportunity,
2. Knocks before entering another student's room,
3. Leaves the door open while in another student's room if the occupant is not in,
4. Leaves a note when he borrows something from another student's room,
5. Never makes rude, insulting, or uncalled for remarks to girls passing dormatories and stays away
from the window when not fully dressed,
6. Thanks the driver who gives him a lift and helps the driver in case he has trouble,
7. Takes his place at the end of the "bumming line" without slipping in front of others (the "bumming
line" for Greenville and Anderson starts at the library)....note:this was just before Cooper
Library was opened
8. Never razzes a referee or umpire,
9. Keeps silent while in the library and hospital,
10. Pays his debts and writes checks only when he is sure they are covered by his bank,
11. Respects the principles and regulations of the university,
12. Comes to attention when the Star Spangled Banner or To the Colors is being played, and stand with
head uncovered when the Alma Mater is being played or sung,
13. Respects the rights of others in the theatre by refraining from creating disturbances,
14. Is honest in and out of the classroom.

A simpler time; however, had there been an internet, a few more laws would be needed.

a 1967 RAT, 1972 grad (barely but thankfully)

A Clemson Gentleman:
15. Needs no introduction

A co-worker had a coffee cup with this on it, about 45 years ago. His dad taught Fortan (that's a programming language - FORmula TRANslation) to me at CLEMSON.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Honestly, my Friend, I've had many laughs at

Oct 17, 2019, 7:24 AM

posts on TNet, because much of the brouhaha reminds me of dorm rants during my time at CU in the 60's.

Those were the days when a crowd would gather before and after games, critiquing every aspect, most of the time with a lot of cursing, yelling, finger-pointing and wall-slamming.

Motor-mouths and know-it-alls abounded then, too, plus smart-asssssses who never hesitated to label others in, shall we say, less than honorable terms. But we took it in good stride, never allowing the rabble raising to destroy our camaraderie.

Thus, I don't get too upset with posts nor care to engage in long-running feuds. And if it gets a bit trifling, then I just simply log off and forget. The fact is most all TNetters are good people, even our "guests," who ordinarily wouldn't hurt a fly, so I caution myself to remember that every time I visit the site.

Peace.

Starts at the top of our country. Being a gentleman doesn't matter anymore. As a matter of fact, it seems the ruder and the least class the more one is admired and loved.

Re: Clemson Gentleman??

Oct 17, 2019, 8:07 AM

To me there seems to be almost a paranoia about trolls. I'm not sure how many really are and how many just get the label, but there is certainly rudeness with anyone who garners that perception. I tend to think that most of the ones that visit and upfront about where their loyalties lie are treated reasonably well. The one place that I will certainly agree, is when discussions get outside of football (sports), especially when it shows up on the football board. Even when we are looking for the same outcome, people seem to get triggered when someone thinks there is a better way to go about it.
