Theory as it relates to tithing

Jan 11, 2021, 10:19 PM

Could it be that evangelical Republicans that give 10% of their salary to their church especially hate taxes since so much of their income goes to God and the worthy charitable projects of their church? Just asking.

Try that again with syntax.***

I think it’s more of the gender studies in Syria, planned parenthood, and healthcare for illegals that prob gripes them more about the tax they pay.

if part of a ministry / missionary outreach and service element. Churches and ministries have largely been great bastions of support for those in their communities over the years. Tithing in the traditional sense should certainly afford those contributing greater conviction in their voices about social taxes they're having to further pay.

Fair Q.

A little teaching for your little learning.

Jan 11, 2021, 10:38 PM

Christians are not bound to tithe. Tithing was instituted/imposed by Levitical Law. Christ came to fulfill the law. While Christians are not obligated to tithe, specifically, we are obligated to give according to directions from God's Holy Spirit.

If one hasn't developed an ear to hear God's Spirit's directions on giving tithing may make them feel better but 10% is a minimum according to my experience. At times it's much more and at times it's nothing at all.

The divide which may intersect with your supposition is that when government takes so much it leaves less for charity and proper caring for Church widows and orphans. In a sense you've made a good point for Christians are first obligated to obey man's law when it isn't in conflict with God's instructions to us.

Here's a good example of disobeying Levitical Law. We know that Saturday is the last day of the week and by Levitical Law is the Sabbath. "Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy." Yet Christians work on Saturday and meet on Sunday which is the first day of the week. Why?

Because Christ fulfilled the law and replaced it with the two laws of Grace. To love God with all your being (including your money) and love your neighbor as you love yourself, not loving his wife while he is at work or fishing.

Good points. Also, someone mentioned that God should not need our money. Well of course He doesn’t. Tithing benefits us! God has our best interest in mind and tithing is to my benefit. I know that’s difficult to understand if someone has not experienced it.

What would God say about a society that does not accept the results of an election after 60 cases presented to judges that were often appointed by your dear leader rule that the election was fair?

Sanders.

The Christ played no part of politics other than to give an example to His Apostles and disciples to obey the law. The Apostle Paul, who is the second most dear Bible figure to my heart, played no politics ever. Not once. Our record of the first church and the dozen or so satellite churches which sprang from the outreach of the first church likewise played no part in politics.

My take from God through prayer, I don't belong here. It brings out the very worst in me. God permits me to participate here and tolerates my seizure of liberty but in His perfect will I probably wouldn't be here. I'm barely a halffast witness and present myself more a heathen by the way I address people who need to hear more about God's love for them than anything I have to say about Donald Trump or Joe Biden, the dems, pubs, socialist, marxist or any other political group.

This is a fantasy, an illusion, it's a void which fills the time with absolutely no production or benefit to anyone starting with me. So what do I get, a void filled with nothing.

If you want to know what God thinks about anything you should ask Him. If he every puts your mail in my mailbox I will Tmale you rather than to speak out here in open about something so personal. I suppose you might ask Him to tell me, He might and He might not. I couldn't say with any accuracy but I would, right now, guess, that He is wanting to talk to you in person.

Bottom line: the laws of man should never be an issue with a Child of God. We answer to a higher power than the US Gov or anyone else. I shall obey the law of man for the law I seek to obey includes man's law when there is no conflict.

We probably have the same motivation as Democrats and non-Christians who support their respective houses of worship and religious organizations. Don't worry, be happy. This charitable giving keeps your taxes lower than they would otherwise be.

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

where every dollar I give is going. (I can actually see and know the people in my community that it helps.)

My tax dollars are often going to programs and people that I don't trust are spending my money wisely.

Jan 12, 2021, 9:48 AM

I would like to know what % of church money ACTUALLY goes to charitable causes - not buildings, or salaries, or fancy expenses, etc. How much actually goes to people in need. Especially in all of these megachurches.

Re: No, I don't think that's true. When I tithe - I know exactly

Jan 12, 2021, 9:52 AM

That’s a fair question and in my honest opinion too much goes to buildings, etc. I belong to a small church and a lot of our budget goes to help people. I can’t speak for large churches but my guess is that some need to take a biblical look at where they spend money.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep - I was speaking for myself - it's a small church -

Jan 12, 2021, 11:59 AM

every $$ taken in and paid out is there for everyone to see.

We have modest buildings with normal spending for upkeep. Most everything else goes to modest salaries for employees, missions, and charitable work.

(We have about 300 members)

I would like to see churches have to disclose their finances just like every other tax-free charitable organization - so we could see what is what. Right now they are tax -free and do not have to disclose their finances.

My church has nothing to hide so in theory I’m ok with that. I do see a slippery slope depending on who is doing the auditing.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, I tend to doubt that.

Jan 12, 2021, 9:48 AM

I mean I hate taxes, and owe a ton of them right now...but I'm not giving away 10% of my income just because I hate taxes.

That'd be like giving away your kids or something.

Re: Theory as it relates to tithing

Jan 12, 2021, 9:58 AM

Actually it is a minimum of 10% plus special contributions.I pay mine before taxes. In the bible a tithe can be up to 30%+.The churches need the tithe to spread Gods word. But of course thats on the lefts agenda too,to dissolve the church because they say its hate speech.
