Next National Protest should be about Mental Illness & Poor Public Education!

Jun 14, 2020, 9:47 AM

Too many in our prisons are mentally ill..and it’s thought 1/4 of the general population.

And, public education is not as good as cracked up to be..in many areas for sure, so why not allow for vouchers (calling out Democrats & powerful School Unions) so families & students can go to a private or better school so to learn.

Reason: Dems & School Unions lose $ & Power!!

You sound exactly like Cory Booker (calling out that he's a Democrat) he's been saying this exact same thing for years.

Blame the public school of course.

Not the fact that the kid wasn’t paying attention during that lesson and refuses to learn. Parents at home often don’t reinforce the value of education either.

This is one thing you and I can agree on.

We already ask our teachers to do way too much and now if we remove police officers they’re going to have even more on their plate.

so you want to provide what? 4,000 dollar vouchers so that poor families can pay 25,000 dollars a year to send their kids to private school? Even if the poor families somehow scrape that together, do you know a ton of "Christian" academies that are desperate to enroll a couple hundred poor black kids? I don't.

Well then you aren't looking. Guess you haven't been in any Christian schools lately (or ever) many give scholarships to disadvantage students. Also.. School Choice isn't all about private schools. School Choice is about allowing parents to send their children to the public school of their choice, across the drawn attendance lines. If you care about education, why can't you go to the public school with a better program?? Handicapped students go across lines to schools with programs that target their needs, Why not regular students?

I’m all for allowing kids from adjacent districts to go to a better school for academic/opportunity reasons. But, how do you get that kid from Chester that wants to go to school in Fort Mill from A to B if mom/dad/etc can’t drive them? The logistics would be a nightmare and costs would skyrocket...and lord knows no one in this state wants to spend one extra cent on education.

Bringing the state scores down. The schools around Greenville have pretty high scores. Lots of kids with Clemson parenting around here.

Morning, LBB!

You are one of my favorite poasters, but I have to agree to disagree with you on this one. As a retired public educator of 42 years, I'd like to share a little insight with you.

As a lighting sales representative, you have the right to reject any bulbs that you receive that are broken or cracked. Perhaps their wattage is labeled wrong. Maybe you hoped to get all 120 watts, but you were sent 40 watts. Whatever the situation, if you were not pleased or satisfied you could return them.

In public education, every teacher, administrator, and counselor works with the "product" as it arrives. There is no reorder or replacement. Each of us must take the "bulb" as delivered and work to make it shine. Just sayin'..........

The only problem with public education is that we allow the public to attend.

I would agree on the 1/4 with mental illness part. I think it's just like physical illness. It'snot always visible and not many make it through life without physical illness, similarly a lot more people face some kind of mental illness during their life. The stigma needs to go away and they need treatment so they can be as productive as possible for the good of the country and themsleves.
