National Vietnam War Veterans Day is today

I have not seen it posted and wanted to thank all the men and women that served during this era. No matter how big or small, your sacrifices are appreciated and not forgotten.
My Dad served in the Army from 1967 to 1970. He was in the 9th infantry, 82nd Airborne Division. He was a forward observer down in the Mekong Delta.

My uncle served in Vietnam. He died from an Agent Orange-related illness when he was in his early 50s.

We are currently in a battle with Parkinson's disease. It is likely Agent Orange related. Thanks to your Uncle for his sacrifice.

I'm so sorry for your battle with Parkinson's. My uncle suffered from chronic B-cell leukemia. We all appreciate your father's service and sacrifices.

My Father(RIP) served in the Army during Vietnam, but luckily was stationed in Germany. My Aunt was a nurse during the War and passed away in 1992 do to a multitude of health issues that our family believed were all
related to Agent Orange.
For all those who have served and those who are still serving, thank you.

My father was in Vietnam. He was in the Army, served two tours, and earned a Bronze Star.
He was in transportation, specifically amphibious transport vehicles.
He rests today in Arlington National Cemetery.
I love my father.

On this day 50 years ago I was on Highway 1 just north of Tam Ky with my platoon conducting a mine sweep, like we did every morning before sun up. I had just taken over a platoon of Marines in the little village of Tam Ky .... myself (2nd Lt.), my platoon Sgt. (a WW II veteran) and 26 young (and I mean young) Marines. Out of my 26 Marines only about half were high school graduates .... all good men. My Battalion headquarters was in Chu Lai, so we had our own little compound which was much better than being around Bn. headquarters.

Clover .... although we were Marines (9th Engineer Battalion), we supported the Army's Americal Division. There was also an Army 155 Howitzer firing battery adjacent to my compound. I always took a lot of comfort with them being there, especially seeing the flechette rounds on the ready right beside the guns.

Served 7 years in the Air Force during Vietnam and had two tours over Vietnam in B-52s. An unforgettable experience!! Sure wouldn't want to do it again!! I salute those that served and especially to those who paid the ultimate price.

I would urge anyone who can to go see "The Wall That Heals" traveling Viet Nam Veterans Memorial, if they can't go see the full sized one in Washington DC. You WILL be changed.
