Thankfully our offense scored a crucial touchdown to take the lead and convert the 2 to put us over the top but we could have just as easily been holding the ball, burning clock and inching down the field against their D to try for a 40+ yard FG.
I had every digit crossed twice that we wouldn't need put our destiny in the hands of Potter with 2 seconds left needing a FG to win. But it shouldn't be that way. We recruited him well and he's got the leg...but he's maybe 60% on the season from various ranges. His accuracy is kinda shockingly bad.
I dunno, maybe in a game with LSU it won't matter but remember the last time we played them...and it did matter? Hoping he can get his mental state right and keep practicing and improving. Having a consistent kicker no matter what game situation is such a critical part of any winning team.

Because he missed a 49-yard FG? BT will be fine...but will catch hail, regardless, the same as Will does on the punting side.

I'm pulling for him...but my confidence level in clutch situations is set to heart attack. I'd feel better if it were set to Catanzaro level.

levels . . . kickers are like drummers . . . they are a different breed!!!
Tanner Tessmann is coming next year . . . Potter's concentration will either improve or crumble with the new competition . . . either way Dabo will have options . . . and our situation will improve.
For now . . . Potter is great handling KO's . . . He is solid on extra points . . . He is serviceable on FG's . . . He IS the best option!!!

I guess what the OP maybe asking, what most of us are thinking. Is why do some lower level schools have more consistency in kicking field goals?

I've seen him make that. We all have. From even further. But, it wasn't a great angle and it wasn't like it was a 27 to 40 yard FG. It was a long FG attempt.
With all that said: "I agree - my level of confidence is on Heart Attack" when he kicks. But, I think he figures it out by the time he is done here at Clemson. Remember he is a "true sophomore"!
