NCAA meetings exploring 6th year eligibility...

Aug 12, 2020, 2:05 PM

Seems reasonable.

Don’t understand why any of their meetings talking about if conferences should play or not during COVID-19? Here is tweet:

Won't that require expansion of available scholarships from the current 85 limit? That also have Title IX implications and possibly lead to the elimination of other men's sports (see Clemson Wrestling circa 1994ish).

It could be as simple as allowing

Athletes six years to play four seasons, for athletes currently enrolled in school this year. Aside from football and basketball, most other athletes won't choose that route in their sport because the scholarship doesn't cover nearly as much. My two cents...

Yes but you would have to extend the 85 scholarship limit or reduce the number of scholarships you can offer each year. SEC teams already run off dozens of players each year with the 25 max times 5 years plan. 25 x 6 years would give them almost double the alloted 85 scholarships.
