Interesting...2021 MLS draft projections - lot of Clemson

Jan 17, 2021, 9:14 AM

This follows the 2020 draft that saw Robbie Robinson go first overall to David Beckham's shiny new expansion team, Inter Miami.

Mike Noonan has put together a serious program here at Clemson...honestly, probably close to what Dabo has done for football. The soccer talent coming through here now is about 10x what we've ever seen before. These guys are getting drafted high and they're getting signed to six-figure contracts right out of the gate.

I think our current squad would have a legit national championship chance ...

It’s a shame they may not get the chance with all the Covid weirdness...the season ended with the ACC championship..

I guess the tourney is supposed to happen in the spring ..we’ll see...

Also with the draft days away ...it obviously won’t even be the team that won the ACC ..if there is an NCAA tournament...

That's a lot to lose, even for Noonan.

We'll have a real good team come this Spring, granted, but will it be a title contender with as many as four first-rounders gone since 2020?

Still a top-drawer program. We've gotten back-to-back years with guys who got those golden-ticket Gen Adidas contracts, too...those are worth $150-$200K apiece nowadays, if memory serves, and they're cap-zero and will cost their teams nothing because Adidas pays the contract, not the team. So everybody wants those guys, it's literally house money. I think there were only 3 of them this year unless they've added more.
