IPTAY Admin costs per athlete

Aug 5, 2020, 3:02 PM

IPTAY is spending $15,800 per athlete to administer benefits. That is an insane amount of money. My school district ( not a poor district) has already cut 14 percent of budget and has informed teachers to expect four furlough days. Davis Babb, what are you and your staff going to do?

Clemson is not in your School District so this does not affect their budget.

It impacts my personal budget. I am going to be making less money this year. Reading the tea leaves, it appears that IPTAY is wanting me to let them keep my football ticket money. For me to consider that, I need to know what cuts the organization has made. My IPTAY donation has always been made with no strings attached. I would never request that money back . The season ticket money is a different animal. The $15,800 per athlete admin costs have got to come down. I am not going to blindly throw money at an organization that is not shouldering part of the financial burden.

IPTAY does not receive any football ticket money. IPTAY donations go to the IPTAY Scholarship fund to pay the educational costs of student athletes and not to pay for the daily operations of the athletic department.

I expect IPTAY will only make budget cuts if they become

absolutely necessary. We, as laymen / laywomen, have no idea what it actually takes to run an organization like IPTAY. I personally tend to believe that, as visible as it is, there is sufficient oversight from the University to assure that no abject corruption exists.

Now, that does not mean that some belt tightening will not happen, and maybe some functions / jobs get eliminated, if there is a huge budget shortfall. It is a business, and will have to make the same tough decisions other businesses are making as a result of this pandemic.
