SCU's "Cotton Bowl"

Feb 22, 2014, 4:39 PM

LOL...THIS ONE DESERVES ITS OWN THREAD:

“In ’57, we defeated Texas down there,” Bob recalls. “(Carolina’s) King Dixon ran the opening kickoff back 98 yards for a touchdown. He got so excited he ‘did it’ in his pants. Everyone knows that story. He had to decide whether to go to the dressing room or go back to the bench. So he went back to the bench, and we had pretty loose huddles the rest of that game. We were about a four-touchdown underdog and won that game 27-21.”

I know King pretty well. Don't think I will ask him about this.
By the way, regardless of his past with the gamecocks, he is a fine man!
Good as gold.

Not. Shot at King...just a funny story

I don't know him, so I will take a fellow Tiger at his word

His most memorable move at USC was to turn down the Rolling Stones of their desire to play at Willy - Brice on their 89 tour. Citing it would open the door for "tractor pulls and such".

This paved the way for the Stones playing at Death Valley that November. #### good time and memory. Thanks King!

I was at that concert, too, JH

Or so they tell me. Had one buddy get arrested TWICE that day!

Was it King that turned down the Panthers, too?

Hey, man.

Not sure about the Panthers. That was an equally moronic move, though.

I remember H came up for that concert from Columbia. Good times.

And then I went to a Stones show at Willy B

About 5 years later

LOL

I think he did turn down the Panthers. Typical coot.

I'm telling you he is a good coot. Pours his heart into many organizations, including the Boy Scouts of America. I was fortunate to serve on a board with him for a youth ministry.
Add to that he is a former marine corps officer. Served in Vietnam.

In my mind he is one of the (very) few, the proud, the good coots.

Looked it up. Panthers call was Mike McGee's.***
