Here's what the "Top 10" has done so far

Oct 17, 2019, 11:52 PM

Rankings. There are lots of them. Thought I'd pick one (AP) & show what the "Top 10" has done so far - - mid-season. Hardly any of these has done a lot. Nobody is a clear "favorite" to be the CHAMP.

I'll list the teams in the current order, but IF they played a ranked team at the time, I'll list both teams' rank when the game was played.

1. BAMA (Nothing so far to PROVE Bama should be #1)
W - Duke 42-3

W - Scar 47-23
W - So Miss 49-7
W - #24 Tex A&M 47-28
Next up:
@ 2&4 Tenn

Well - make of this what you will, but outside of (maybe) LSU - who's done a whole lot. Still a lot of ball to be played.

This is why the only poll that matters doesn't come out until November.

This is why I think Clemson’s drop in the polls

Oct 18, 2019, 12:20 AM

Has nothing to do with it’s schedule. The AP writers all live in a echo chamber spewing the same narrative that the SEC started last winter.

Writers outside of areas only see what is posted by ESECPN and don't look at stats as to how long players are actually in the game. Don't take into consideration that Clemson pulls starters early when they have a large lead and give up gravy TDs to the opponents. They need to look at everything not just what they see scrolling along the bottom of the screen. Lazy people. Teams like bama, 0310, okie, LSU, Wisconsin leave the starters in as late as possible to pad the stats.

Our drop in the poll doesn't have anything to do with pulling starters early or our schedule. We were soundly in 1st place until the UNC game, and that game wasn't close due to pulling starters out early. We're the only team in the top 5 to have a close call so far. We fell from #2 down to #3 due to LSU picking up their 2nd win over a ranked team this season.

Also, what support do you have that those other teams are keeping starters in just to pad stats? Comparing us to Alabama... Tua has thrown 21 more passes than Lawrence, which isn't much of a difference over 6 games. Lawrence has ran the ball 11 more times than Tua, and ETN has 10 more carries than Alabama's #1 rusher. I don't see a lot of difference in the amount of touches for the starters.

Compared to Ohio State...Lawrence has 20 more passes than Fields, and Fields has 29 more carries than Lawrence does. That's nearly a push in terms of touches between the two quarterbacks. Ohio State's leader rusher has 32 more carries than ETN which is about 5 more carries per game.

Compared to LSU...Burrow has 25 more passes, and 7 more rushing carries than Lawrencce, and ETN has 6 more carries than their leading rusher does. That's about close to even really, especially when you consider that their defense has given up quite a bit of points in a few of their games.

I'm not trying to be difficult, but it just drives me crazy when we make statements like this while just assuming things.

They may sub but not as deep as we do. If you left Brice and Lynn J, Ladson, Ngata, Overton in longer we would score more points and No 2 D would have stopped a couple of scores.

They forget about us, which actually turns out just fine for us. Even after two championships in three years, there are still people who think Clemson may be in Tennessee or Texas or Florida.

Wisconsin is No 1 defense in scoring and ypg. The best teams they have played. Mich and Mich St rank 54 & 79 on passing yards per play and 79 & 116 on rushing yards per play. 3 of their opponents were ranked under 100 in total yards. We will see what happens against O310 St this week.

Also, our competition so far matches up with the top 10 teams. UNC & FSU certainly match Duke and Uof5C,

Florida and Texas appear to be ahead of A&M and Syr, UNC, FSU but by seasons end ?

The rest...give me a break!

LSU's 2 "Wins" over top 10 teams makes them #1 to me...

and Tigers in mix for next 3 or 4 spots based on production & quality of opponent and continuing winning (21 straight).

It will all settle out in the second half of the season. Dabo has proven his strategy works and it seems to be right on track once again. We are rounding into form and will peak later in the season. I'm fine with dropping a few spots....takes some pressure off these players.

Place chip on shoulder!

Go Tigers!

Based just on the results to date, should the top 4 be:

1. LSU
2. Oklahoma
3. Wisconsin
4. Penn State
