only allowing one access point, and pushing people further away from the Clemson rug attempting to create the illusion that The Hill is more full than it is? Why did they try to fix something that wasn't broken?

The answer is so simple, it will never be tried. The students going to the Hill should not be afforded extra scrutiny. And one hour before the game starts open the Hill to general admission at face value. That will fill the Hill with enthusiastic people who can get in at a reasonable price. As for the fire marshal, give him a trip to Bull Street.
