Has FSU got it figured out ?

Sep 29, 2019, 11:20 AM

I know their struggles but they have talent . They still have some great WRs and seem to be a little bit more talented on the back end of defense than they have been. How worried are y’all about this game ?

It could be closer than expected

Cam Akers is a big concern, but there is no way Taggert can outcoach us.

I'm pretty sure a chicken pecking the playbook would have a better offense than Elliott. But no one outcoaches Venables.

It's exhausting reading things like this from the fanbase . What do you think we should do offensively that will make us better , Coach ?
I mean ... I wish we'd have scored enough points to win that football game ...or the other 4 before it ....or the last 20 consecutively where we were coached on offense by Tony Elliot.
Hard to fathom being so overwhelmingly negative as to say something about an offensive coach that has produced so much for the current national champions .

If people were as good as their obituary - and products were as good as advertised - this would truly be a wonderful world !!

I thought coaching , attitude and OL. I think their new offensive system has covered up some of the OL issues

They have given up on avg 5 sacks a game. Hornibrook was sacked 8 times by NC St.

FSU issue on Defense is they lack depth and tend to fade as the game goes on

No. Not even close

Sep 29, 2019, 11:53 AM

This is what happens when you get to play an extraordinarily mediocre NCSU team that poses 0 offensive threat and a pretty bad Louisville team that started their backup QB.

Maybe Leavitt is helping

Always worried about FSU.

Short answer - not really....

Sep 30, 2019, 7:00 AM

The only difference with FSU game 1 versus FSU game 5 is they didn't totally crap the bed in the second half.

Some offensive stats from the NC State game that may surprise you:
Total Yards: NC State 370, FSU 369
Yards Rushing: NC State 88, FSU 53
Yards Passing: NC State 282, FSU 316
1st Downs: NC State 24, FSU 22
TOP: NC State 29:11, FSU 30:49

A couple of things jump out at me. As you can see these two teams had almost equal stats but it didn't seem that way watching the game. I think the main reason for this is that NC State is abysmal at the QB position - not quite Georgia Tech bad but close in regards to passing accuracy. The NC State QB accuracy is among the worst I have seen this year - gives the QB at Kentucky a good run for his money.

Cam Akers is a concern but I trust our defense to keep him under control especially with that chronically weak offensive line blocking for him. The FSU offense gave up 8 sacks against NC State - the most in a single game this season. No way we don't get after Cam and whatever statue FSU has back at QB in the Valley.

Respect FSU's talent level but at the end of the day, that team still has problems. FSU tends to play to the talent of the opponent each week (up one week down the next) similar to Clemson in the Bowden years. What will they do against an elite team like Clemson? If we bring our "A" game can they match it? Nothing I've seen out of FSU leads me to believe they can.

Overall, I think this game is more about us - it is a statement game for the second half of the season and who we are going to be. I'm quite sure the close game to UNC has gotten the teams full attention and expect that FSU will not be the beneficiary of that result...

I’m not worried at all. I have no doubt our coaching staff has these boys dialed back in and ready to go for this one.
