Guess he finally got to a bridge too far and the last straw in a very large bundle. I never watched FOX and the only thing I know is that he at least tried to be fair and balanced. I myself had to switch lately due to an utter disgust of my party.

Far from it. He unloaded on Trump at every opportunity. It's bad for everyone that Shep left. He may have been the best pure news guy on any network.
One of two things made you say what you said. Either you've never watched Smith or you're so liberal lopsided you can't differentiate between the truth and spin so anything which doesn't suit you is a lie.

It became clear that he was an askhole and unbearable. Shep, best I could tell, is the most fair and unbiased reporter on the planet. At times he was quite harsh on Trump, imo.
I hope the man finds work which pays well but there's no sense him sending his resume to the mainstream bunch. I don't believe he will go along with their program.

Shep Smith is probably the best pure anchor on the planet. He's honestly the last - or at last the only presently surviving - member of the Edward R. Murrow/Walter Cronkite/Dan Rather/Tom Brokaw line...and before you say it, yes, Dan Rather went off the deep end there at the end. But for a long time those guys were the Gold Standard for professional news anchor and Shep is another in that ilk.
He didn't bend for Fox; he assuredly isn't going to bend for MSNBC or CNN or anyone else.
More likely he will find work with one of the major networks as an anchor.

I don't like him for the same reason I don't like Hannity. Both ruin interviews with good people on both sides of the isle by talking over them and interrupting them in the conversation. Hannity is pure, Hannity. Tucker is a really smart guy but he knows it and seems to want to make sure the rest of the world knows it.
I swear, Hannity has tried to put words in Alan Dershowitz' mouth. When a man who didn't attend college tries to argue law with a Harvard Law professor...###.

Shep Smith was probably the best anchor working in news today. Fox's credibility - well, such as they had left, anyhow - takes a huge hit with him leaving.
Truthfully this was always coming. Fox News was sort of this weird were-creature...you had Shep Smith and his news division, who frankly were probably one of the best if not the best newsrooms working in the biz today and certainly the one with the most GOP access because they had the "Fox" label on them - and then all of a sudden-like the network morphed into that late-night spinfluencer brigade of Talking Heads like Hannity, Carlson, and Ingraham who seemingly hadn't even watched what their own network's news division had reported. It was incredibly schizophrenic and it was obvious the situation couldn't endure.

He was way too often right and he had the power to cause me to rethink details. If he ever missed on anything I didn't know about it.
During the Mueller report he stayed dead in the middle. I've heard him say 'It appear...this or that,' but seldom submitted an opinion. Topshelf and I've been saying it for a long time. Baier is the only reporter in Fox now and he leans right more than often.
