Tiger nation was definitely blessed to have JP for 4 decades as the Voice of the Tigers . He was a classy broadcaster and a perfect fit at Clemson .

I ran into Jim in Underground Atlanta in 1972 before a Ga Tech game. There was a country flavored band and Jim wanted hear Merle Haggard's Mama Tried, he said it was his favorite song!. Playing it now in honor of his birthday!

Jim and I were very good friends, though we never met. We 'saw' a lot of games together. I can recall a lifetime of memories of me and Jim, just taking in the games together, living and dying on the outcomes. I still miss him.

Jim lives in my head to this day. He'll be with me on my last day. "Garner" and "Glean" and a million more. Loved me some Jim Phillips.
