Life in 2021

Jul 19, 2020, 8:14 AM

I have heard people saying to be prepared for a new normal when this is over. There has also been Clemson tuition discussions on TNet. So...what do you think will cease to exist in a year?

A guy at Harvard (if I remember xorrectly) predicted like 20% of colleges closing in 10 years. This was prepandemic and mostly small private. I think this will now happen in a year. Those schools can't afford one down year.

That was inevitable. What about private K-12? My wife and I had been debating it, but we're waiting at least a year because we aren't going to risk paying that tuition for online learning. People I work with had similar thoughts with kids in private. Will these schools exist in a year? Is public ready for massive increase from private?

Our soccer league organizer told me no spring season they could handle. No fall season he said would probably close shop for good. What is the future of youth sports?

What else might not be around? Airlines? Theaters? Sports programs at many colleges?

College tuition has long needed a "correction"

and I think that bubble was going to burst with our without Covid.

Covid probably will speed that bubble burst.

That being said, most everything that we want and is important to us will return to "normalcy" when this is over. Never under-estimate the power of a capitalistic society with free spirit like Americans. It's imbred into us...and that is not going to mysteriously go away due to a "lost year"

So I see no reason to believe most things come back. That would be for things like airlines, theaters, etc. Possibly new guidelines and requirements (masks on planes?)...but it will come roaring back.

You already see how antsy Americans are right now...even without the vaccine. People are pursuing the things that bring them joy...even with things not normal.

Look at restaurants and beaches and mountains as example.

I agree completely, but do these things have cash reserves

to last until then? Feds can't prop up everything forever. A good outcome of all of this will be a survival of the fittest in terms of business...unless your business doesn't survive.

They don't...which is why we are not shutting down again***

This November election will telling for the future of capitalism. There is a big push for socialism like I have not seen before. Much has changed since the ‘80s when a lighter friendlier version of NE liberalism was rejected. Younger generations don’t see past the empty promises of prosperity, and how quickly our economy can be centrally managed into a downward spiral such as Venezuela.

Kids are being brainwashed in public education to believe socialism is more noble and more fair than capitalism. How they reconcile in their heads seizing wealth earned by hard work and giving it to someone who did nothing as being fair is amazing.

I’ve often heard the term “American exceptionalism” and like most felt a sense of pride. Looking at America today, we still are exceptional—-exceptionally stupid!! The freedoms our forefathers (and mother’s) fought and died for are being given away with barely a whimper. We are lawyering ourselves right out of being a sovereign nation and into the “one world order” long sought by the internationalists. The great experiment was great while it lasted. Se habla espanol?
