Clemson's success with recruiting classes less stellar...

Feb 7, 2019, 11:23 AM

than the Bamas, Buckeyes, Sooners, Bulldogs, etc is best explained by the ability of our coaches and staffs to be able to create a culture of family, mutual respect, honesty, healthy competition, academic excellence and MOST of all...being able to coach up our players such that almost all will move up at least a star after being in the system for a year or so.

That's the difference, a huge difference.....as demonstrated by our victories, many as dogs, over LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Louisville and. of course, Bama. On paper we should have been, to some extent, stomped by them. That rule is now hugely inoperative.

Give credit to the administration (AD), coaches, staff and the FANS ! As a family we can do amazing things and 'the best is yet to come'.

We get exactly who we want and then fit them in where they belong. Everybody's happy except those people who don't understand the relationships between raw talent, potential and skill development levels.

All true, but . . .

. . . if you listened to Brandon Streeter's comments yesterday, he spoke time and again about "the fit". If a player doesn't "fit" Clemson, the rest hardly matters. Football rating services can not account for this factor. It is the methodology that makes this head coach, this coaching staff, this team and this school what it is . . . and what we are! No way to account for it. Years ago, on the Sunday morning NFL shows, the closest they could come was to refer to it as the "intangibles". Well, "the fit" is where the magic starts for melding the team and bonding the family. Dabo knows it, and he preaches it.

Go, Tigers! BYOG! 2019! Another Freakin' Natty!

We get exactly who we want and who we need,... the fact that we've won 2 of the last 3 Natty's should service notice that those who grade recruiting classes must be going about this thing all wrong.

I learned over 30 years ago not to question our coaches' recruiting judgement. Danny signed a player from a small SC school, and he was listed as 6'1", 190 lbs, and 4.65/40. My thoughts were "wasted scholarship, too slow for a DB, and too small for a LB." Lavon Kirkland filled out a little and became a pretty good player.
