My last Steve Spurrier post......

Oct 15, 2015, 6:39 AM

As usual the OBS did what was best for STEVE SPURRIER. He did not want the stigma as a coach who had a losing record and/or was forced to retire. Maybe he could see a big blowout loss to Clemson coming too.

He could care less about USCjr and all the players that HE brought in to play there. He made a big deal that he did not retire just resigned. Insert QUIT for resign and what message does that send to the players at USCjr? When the going gets tough then exit stage right.

Steve, you went out a quitter. Nice legacy sackman.

Tigers football team will choose to receive or defer the opening kickoff in our upcoming contest this weekend?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Defer would give us the best starting field position...

Win the toss. Choose to play defense first. This is known.***

Geville Tiger on Clemson football , "Dabo's only problem is he has to deal with turd fans questioning every move he makes.”

Which brings up the question I cannot get answered

Oct 15, 2015, 7:47 AM [ in reply to Do you think that the Clemson....... ]

we lost both coin tosses to ND and GT and they deferred. We picked which endzone to defend, but both times picked the endzone in the first quarter that meant in the 4th quarter ND and GT were going away from the hill, towards the west end zone. I just don't understand the logic in either case.

ND - is was raining and the wind was blowing east to west. This meant in the 4th quarter we had the wind in our face (remember the long field goal we missed?).

Some wise Tnetter help me with this!

We took the ball. If we chose to defend they would get the ball to begin both halves and have a chance at extra possession.

When we chose to receive, they picked the side to defend.

Most who know him tend to agree. Here's the first lines,,,

Oct 15, 2015, 7:18 AM

of a book a couple of years ago. The Brat by Pat Jordan begins with a personality description of Spurrier describing exactly what he would eventually do to the SoCar program and its people:

"People complained to her [His Wife]. He was insufferable, boorish, rude, insulting. She'd shrug, like any long-suffering mother. She was used to it. The tantrums, the self-pity, the selfishness. What could she do? That's the way he is, she'd say, and then add, "Steve's a brat."

"Webster's dictionary defines "brat" as "an annoying, spoiled or impolite child." He demands the biggest scoop of ice cream, and his eyes dart to his siblings' scoops to make sure he got it. He has to be the first in line for the roller coaster, pushing and shoving his way to the front if necessary. He always has to win in kickball, AND IF HE DOESN'T GET WHAT HE WANTS, HE TAKES HIS BALL AND GOES HOME. He can never be denied anything.

"If his mother refuses to buy him a toy, he flings himself on the floor, wailing and kicking, mortifying his mother among the other mothers at the store. (He himself is never mortified, since he has no shame.) If his screeching doesn't work, he goes silent, holding his breath until he turns blue and his mother, frantic now, gives in to his tantrum before he faints. His secret. Threats elicit fear, which gets him what he wants. Fear keeps his mother in line, and when he grows up, he expects the same behavior will keep everyone else in line, too.

"So, his wife would say, "Steve's a brat," which is an odd word for a wife to use to describe her husband. Unless you know the husband."

he was pretty classless in dumping a losing team THAT HE PRODUCED on his assistants to finish out a crappy and painful season, ensuring a dumpster fire would remain for the program to have to rebuild from. I couldn't have agreed more.

Go Tigers!

Can't imagine Hoke or Ward will give much effort this year

I'm wondering if the lose out.

No, SC won't lose out. They'll play much better for the remaining games, including the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Wouldn't be surprised to see them give the Tigers a great game. So ironic, isn't it? Tanner promotes an insane acting rah-rah cheerleader coach to energize and inspire a team numbed by a head coach who obviously didn't realize just how burned out he had become. Should sound familiar to most Clemson fans. As for Spurrier resigning mid-season, it's better for a coach or player to leave the team immediately if their heart and desire is gone. Would you mind if your boss was burned out but still went through the motions of doing his job with halfhearted effort? Quitting mentally, then staying with the team, is far more destructive.

You're probably right on that one considering The Citadel still resides on your schedule, though a Bulldog vs. a scared chicken paints the scene for a classic upset, not without its precedence. You went all Aerosmith on the rest of it though. I think FGF is that way >
