Brownell's buyout

Dec 16, 2019, 11:03 AM

Anyone know what it is at the end of this season?

Why would Clemson agree to one? Who is going to steal him from us?

???

This isn’t a negotiation if/when you decide to let him go unless it’s with cause. Like all schools, we agreed to it in his initial contract.

So, unless he gets in trouble, or gets a new job immediately, we have to pay what the contract says.

To fire him would mean we have to buy out his remaining contract. That is what he is asking about, probably. I would bet there are several years left on it, and I would imagine it will be a pretty hefty buy-out.

$425K if fired before April 30, 2020

He can easily be terminated. The contact extension basically gave Clemson great terms for a buyout clause.

They make more than that off of Dip-n-dots. Just sayin

Dec 16, 2019, 11:33 AM

They can afford it.

But alas, it won't happen. I would be happy with mediocrity, we won't top out of the ACC bottom three this year.

They made more off of me selling Hot Chocolate

Dec 16, 2019, 11:37 AM

I would've paid more for that hot chocolate though.

Because the buy-out is so low, I suspect they will pull the trigger at the end of the season. Once it's clear that we won't make a post season tournament, they may do it then to get a jump on other schools looking for a HC.

Unfortunately there was another contract signed in 2018 after the tournament run, that would be in effect now. I can't seem to find the buyout terms from that one though.

We are losing fans that will never come back.

Dec 16, 2019, 11:55 AM

The Brownell tenure has taken quite a toll on the Clemson Basketball program.

Most of them will come back, just like they did after Shyatt***

Dec 16, 2019, 11:57 AM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Shyatt was only here for 5 years. This is year 11.

Dec 16, 2019, 12:02 PM

Most will come back, but 11 years is enough time to develop other interests for many.
