Bowl Games

Dec 4, 2018, 12:46 PM

Should they just cancel all the bowl games except for the playoffs? Players are opting out for fear of injury and it is watering down the competition.

The inaugural Myrtle Beach Bowl will be in 2019

Do we really need a bowl game in Myrtle Beach.

Of course, it's better than El Paso, Shreveport or Birmingham.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Nope, bad football is still better than no football

*I stole this motto from the Gaemcocks, but it still fits

From the looks of the crowd at the Akron game...

Re: Bowl Games

No offense meant to any generation, but this is all part of the trophy for everyone mentality. If only the best of the best are rewarded, what about the rest? Some, or many, of these teams that are 6-6 or worse wouldn't even get on the ROY bus.

No its not

Dec 4, 2018, 12:57 PM

It is ENTIRELY about money. These bowl games have ALWAYS been about money. Nothing has changed except more people are trying to figure out how to make money off these games (primarily through TV coverage) and so more have popped up.

The standards are almost identical as they were 20 years ago (slightly changed for 12 game regular seasons), but there's just more of them to fill.

It's also about giving as many teams as possible the extra 15 practices and thus a leg up on next season. That's a good thing for the unwashed masses.

What’s higher?

Dec 4, 2018, 1:23 PM

The number of bowl games or the number of players sitting out bowl games? The only guys I’ve seen sitting out are bonafide 1st round talents which is a very small number.

The bowl games have always been about money so they’re not going away. And really it’s a nice treat for these smaller schools to go on a trip as a reward for winning as many games as they lose like the school in Columbia. It’s about the kids.
