This is going to be my only statement on the recent events.

If you, we, are going to rename Tillman Hall, then name it after something that will endure the test of time. Name it after one of the hundreds of Clemson students who volunteered for and ultimately gave their lives for this country. Or, better yet, name it after the entire class that, to a man, volunteered to serve this country. If the fine people of South Carolina cannot find a worthy individual out of that group, then God help us.

Which entire class volunteered? I'm totally in favor if this

Jun 12, 2020, 6:25 PM

is so.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't know, but I am fairly certain one of them did.

Jun 12, 2020, 6:28 PM

Someone on here will know. They could name it Class of '42 Hall or which ever one it was.

Clemson class of '44. The entire junior class volunteered to fight in WW2. Only about half of this class returned from the war. I am one of the very fortunate ones, in that my father survived the war------- returned to Clemson and graduated in 1948. He lived until the age of 93. His was indeed THE GREATEST GENERATION!!

I love the military history of Clemson

Amazing that the entire class volunteered for WWII. So glad your grandfather returned. For those that did not, I will now always remember the Clemson class of 1944.

Class of 1944 Hall it should be!

There is a HUGE problem with that.

Jun 12, 2020, 8:13 PM

When a bunch of arrogant, self-absorbed ###### from the future judge all of us by the standards of their time, based on the socio-political flavor of the day, no name we choose may be good enough. America itself is already seen as the problem, so according to these twisted fruit loops, nobody who fought for this evil country would deserve to be honored in such a way. As you say, God help us.

I agree with Spud but the liberal left will never agree to that. It has to honor someone who has done less but would be popular with the millenials and minorities.

Jun 12, 2020, 10:46 PM

have a problem with that. Memorial Stadium could be on the chopping block. I’m sure honoring people who died fighting for this country is offensive to a lot of people.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

According to the press release, Tillman Hall will

Jun 13, 2020, 7:30 AM

be renamed to it's original Main Building name:

"The Board also adopted a resolution respectfully requesting the South Carolina General Assembly make a one-time exception to the state’s Heritage Act during the 2021 legislative session. This exception would give limited authority to the Board to restore Tillman Hall to its original name of the Main Building."

I guess the BOT's thinking is if they don't name it after a human being and refer to it as an inanimate object they won't offend anyone.

Just call it Rho Hall. Should not have any thing bad about the letter and it is academic sounding.

"360,222 Union Soldiers who died to end slavery" Hall.

We never hear about them....and the sacrifices they made. I guess they all had too much "white privilege."
