Alabama v Clemson '67

Dec 31, 2020, 5:47 PM

I think "The Snake" was QB for Bama and the "Needle": was QB for Clemson.

I sold peanuts to get in that game. The Valley was packed and rocking. The Tigers played great but could not take advantage of scoring opportunities. This was our best team of the 60s. Could have easily won the Georgia and Alabama games.

Thanks for posting. I enjoyed seeing that.

The way Bear Bryant kept mentioning Death Valley seems like additional evidence LSU didn't use that name at the time. If a fellow SEC member had the same stadium name I don't think he would have talked about the real Death Valley like that.

I would be willing to bet The Bear didn't give a rat's hind

Agreed, but it just seemed as though he had not heard that stadium name previously.

Stabler, Jimmy Addison, and a certain 190 pound Alabama lineman named Danny Ford.
I was a freshman that year. "Largest crowd ever at a football game in SC." until that day of course. 49,000 plus

I was there too - 3rd year

W/o checking, we lost 13-10 and missed 2 or 3 chip-shot field goals in the process. After the game, Bear Bryant ragged on his good friend Frank Howard by saying that if he coached that Clemson team, they would be #1 in the nation!
