ATL food recommendations

Sep 19, 2016, 11:57 AM

Hello fellow Tigers!

I know everyone goes to the Varsity, because of proximity, good food, and history... but I if could make a recommendation:

If you get there early Thursday - grab a lunch or early dinner at The Vortex. Really good 'gourmet' gigantic burgers and bar food. Crazy atmosphere, and wall to wall taps of liquid courage.

Just a suggestion if you've never been.

Also, thanks @Clemsonjoe -- it's 21 and up, so in the words of Dave Chappelle "better not bring your kids".

"There's something in these hills and I suspect that's what it is - the ability of an institution through the unending dedication and greatness of its people - its administration, its faculty, its staff, its students and alumni - to impart to all it touches a respect, an admiration, an affection that stands firm in disquieting times when things around it give impressions of coming unglued." - Joe Sherman '34

One of my favorites! 21 and up though, so don't bring kids***

I'm not sure anyone goes to the Varsity for good food.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

That's all I ever hear about from people, so I didn't want to step on anyone's chow spot.. I went there as a freshman in '01.. it's a spectacle to behold, not to mention it was overrun with orange and the cadence call was deafeningly amazing - but...food was McDonaldsish

Avoid the Varsity. Made entire family sick two years ago.

If you really want something good, Go 1 mile down Ponce to

Sep 19, 2016, 12:52 PM

Ponce City Market. Side note, it's really unbelievable how they transformed that old building.

Get yourself a Holeman and Finch Burger (can add Bacon and/or an egg). You'll thank me later. Then, get yourself a tall cold one (or three) at Taps on Ponce (56 beers on Tap).

Trust me, the quick Uber ride there and back will be worth it. To hell with the Varsity, food is terrible.... Vortex is good, but smoking is allowed inside.

If you want something closer, go to Cypress Street Pint and Plate.
