AOC an idiot?

In my opinion it is very unwise to toss out that label to AOC considering she has degrees from BU in International Relations and Economics. She is a Latina that managed to get elected in NY 14th Distric that is right at 50% Latin, espouses for the poor in a Distrcit that the average income is $58k in NY City( $58k is poor in NY City) and where registered Democrats hold a huge numerical advantage over Repubs. No matter what anyone in the rest of the USA thinks of her she is not going anywhere in future elections.
While I disagree with many of her positions I would never call her an idiot, she will be around for a long time and as such dismissing her is an error .She is a person with an agenda that I feel will ultimately harm the USA but when one promises the sun, stars and moon to legions of poor folks you may be unpleasently surprised by the outcomes.
I would be on board for any to all of the progressive wings ideas as long as they can show a path to pay for them without taxing us to death. Sadly that is not the case and the ideas espoused are downright scary. Unlimited money printing being one of the worst so far. Unlimited printing of money will only lead to hyper inflation and loss of the USD as the World Reseve Currency. Both of these are no bueno for the USA.
All Social Dems suggest we can just tax the rich to pay for them, they know this is not going to happen and there is not enough rich folks to tax to pay the bill on these items. What wil occur is the definition of rich will be adjusted as it always has and those onerous taxation rates will move down in income levels . To get what they really want will require higher income taxation, an institution of a VAT on all goods and services( Like the EU/Canada already has)of 13%-28% depending upon items. To "afford" these things the bill must be spread over the entire population and not just upon the top 1% of income tax filers. Old Bernie loves the Norway model yet never brings up they hold the largest Sovereign Wealth fund in the world and only have roughly a population of South Carolina. Oh, SS/Medicare payroll tax will also rise substantially.
Dismiss her as an idiot at your own peril, me I see an ideologue that wil be around a long time.

She has the operational mind of an earthworm, and her term as a congresswoman will be brief. She’ll be in prison longer than she would have served in Congress (“served” lol). He!l, she’s going to serve a longer sentence than Manafort (Russian bot, spy, agent) hahaha.

You are free to hold that opinion but you may want to consider the fact she will be re-elected for multiple terms, only rise higher in positions of power in Congress and consolidate what appears to me to be a very far left leaning youth in the Country.
Considering Trump is an effing idiot and he got elected to the highest office in the land, that alone should give one pause in coming years. My greatest hope currently is that SCOTUS /Federal Courts block the National Emergency as one never knows what a future left wing Social Democrat may choose to declare. Bypassing the Constitution is never a good look either as all spending must originate in Congress.

why AOC’s accomplishment...getting 16,898 votes in a primary...is more impressive than Trump’s accomplishment of becoming POTUS...after creating a real estate and media empire. I mean, I’m not saying Trump is smart...just like AIC isn’t.

Phrased it off in trying to point out that if AOC is an idiot then that also applies to Trump. Trump got lucky in running against the only person he could defeat, had a strategy and a bunch of useful fools in the fold. Does anyone think coal, especially eastern coal is coming back?
As to AOC votes in the election she did get 270k to 30K in the general election.
As to Trump, people forget he started on 3rd base and acts like he hit a home run.

camp, but if Trump turning his millions into billions across multiple business ventures is “starting on 3rd and getting to home”, then getting a college degree and becoming a bartender is “starting on 2nd and stealing 1st.”
But whatever. Just trying to Understand. If you respect her, so be it. Nothing she says sounds thoughtful or intelligent to me.

Respect her? Not for any position as most would be no bueno for me . I respect that she is working an agenda rather effectively from the far lefts perspective and if conservatives dismiss her as an idiot they are doing so at their own peril. She is 24/7 in the media that fawns over her and has a substantial social media following. I look at where I think we are heading as a nation and those that disagree with the current path to the far left better have a better plan than calling her an idiot.

Trump talks like a 4th grader... dur dur dur... how dare you call AOC an idiot, she has degrees!! I’m offended!!
AOC is a socialist lunatic with no real-life experiences.
I do wish we could split this country up and let you socialist nuts try it out without hurting the rest of us.

Masterfully. If you are even halfway receptive to what she’s saying, she will absolutely reel you in. I give her full credit for that skill. Like Trump, she’s recognized that feelings matter more than facts, and it’s how she gets away with things like saying we have 12 years left.
When it comes to economics and international politics, her knowledge level is sophomoric at best.....It’s a real puzzler that those were her areas of concentration at Boston U.

Look only to the tin pot dictators of South America to see how she formulates economic ideas. So were old Hugo and Maduro on economics and look how well that turned out. Even people with money cannot buy dookie because there is no dookie to buy. If there is one would need a wheelbarrow to tote the required devalued money in to buy a loaf of bread.

All EXCEPT Obed are missing the point , while you may think her an idiot there are legions of social media tools that love her and her poor first positions. She is not stupid/idiotic and she got a position where she will be in office for decades. If you think this is meaningless I suggest you may want to better understand where we could end up in the future.
24/7 media coverage, a social media darling that sucks sheep in to the fold. It is stunning how many people think social media is a news forum, Idiocracy is well on its way. The idiots will not be the AOC types but those that follow the pied pipers.

She got elected in an election in her district with very small turnout as I recall. I think the Amazon decision will stick with her, even though she was one of several politicians who caused it, and New Yorkers will have long memories when re-election time comes.
At the end of the day, to get re-elected it's what have you done for you constituents, not how do the nation's hippies love the Green New Deal, and she's already dug a multi-billion dollar hole for herself in that category.
Imagine the SC politician who got tagged with running BMW out of South Carolina---you think he or she would get re-elected?

The people she represents were not getting hired in those $125k jobs, she is smart to recognize that fact and play to it on what will happen to their area. She won the DEM nomination on low turnout(25k) but crushed her Repub opponent in the general election with a turnout of 300K, she got 270K votes in that election.
Just my opinion on her being a multiple term representative but given as I said that the 14th District is 50% Hispanic, lower income and very heavily democrat I would say her odds are very high. Also factor in that incumbents have a built in edge in future elections.
She is playing to a very specific crowd in her district, she knows it and them and thus puts out items that resonate well in that defined area.

Just like Trump isn't an idiot.
Why a lot of people think she's an idiot is the trolls on facebook. I've seen a ton of pictures of her with a stupid caption that she never said, go to the comments, the first one is "she never said that", the comment from the troll is "I know she didn't but I can see her saying it" then 700 comments of "yeah me too"

bunch of people basically said made the same argument about Pelosi before she was handed the gavel back, that she was too stupid and incompetent to be speaker. And since has pretty much had Trump on the end of a short leash. I also get the feeling a lot of people just do not like opinionated women who talk back, and she plays that to her female supporters. So calling her stupid is not going to do much of anything accept cause people to under estimate her.

No, we are criticizing her for the legitimately idiotic things she has said, or written in her bills.
Such as her plan to pay for a $32 TRILLION M4A program: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5O9NRd3t4vc
Or the fact that she doesnt really care about being factually correct: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-LZeklv9lQ
or maybe her pompous elitism: https://twitter.com/aoc/status/1099126500924760064?lang=en
or celebrating the fact that she lead the charge to reject tens of thousands of high paying jobs and billions in tax revenue from New York, who desperately needs the economic boost: https://www.cnn.com/2019/02/08/politics/amazon-backlash-alexandria-ocasio-cortez/index.html
And is now regretting chasing away Amazon after critics more intelligent than her gave her significant backlash: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-03-04/ocasio-cortez-not-completely-against-amazon-in-new-york "Community input", thats rich, last time I checked, the COMMUNITY had already negotiated a great deal for Amazon to move in. If they want Amazon back now, they will have to give Amazon a lot more incentives and give up a lot of benefits to bring the jobs back.
And the "Green New Deal", there isn't much I have to explain with this one, particularly the part where AOC wants "every building in the United States" to be demolished and replaced within 10 years: https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-resolution/109/text
The Democrats even know AOC and her ideas are a joke, and that her presence gives the Republicans so much ammo and ability to troll the Left with, much to the frustration of Schumer: https://www.politico.com/story/2019/02/14/schumer-green-new-deal-1175513
Honestly, why am I even railing against AOC? She's great, I hope she sticks around and never changes. If she continues to be the face of the Left, the Left will keep shooting itself in the foot and ultimately lose even more power than what they have already lost.

She has a Political Science degree in International Relations and Economics, yes. But that doesnt mean much. I earned a Poli Sci degree. You can take 10 Poli Scie majors, who all have concentrations in "International Relations and Economics", and all 10 of them will be taking completely different courses with only ONE of them actually studying International Relations and Economics. Not kidding. I focused strictly on the analytical side of political science. My classes focuses on research analysis, statistical methods, physics (huge in analyzing financial markets), finance, accounting, market analysis, public choice, applied demand analysis, international relations, various language courses, business data analytics, etc. A very business and economics-heavy course load during my later years of study. Based on what AOC has been preaching, I can confidently say she did not study any curriculum that actually focuses on the hard numbers of economics and business relations. She doesnt know how the business world works or how businesses operate, she has poor understanding of supply and demand, etc etc. I would love to see her transcript, because I am willing to bet my next bonus that she studied nothing but Keynesian economic theories (basically, soft socialism) with absolutely zero emphasis or exposure to mathematical analysis courses or learned experience through internships, creative inquiries, or co-op research. I guarantee she earned a glorified philosophy degree which focused on "well what if we just tax the rich..." without any in depth, mathematical analysis or hands on experience in a high level economic organization such as a consulting firm, trade organization, regulatory organization, etc. There is a running joke among economists and investors when they talk about Keynesian Economics, they call it "Wrong Economics", because it is wrong. Every where Kenyesian principles have been applied, the results have always been utter economic failure and regression. Just look at Obama and Carter for examples of Keynes's school of thought in practice. She also took advantage of an intellectually lazy political message that takes advantage of the struggle of the poor people in her district. That 50% Latino demographic will listen to a Latina women above everyone else, and when she comes along with superficial ideas that effectively say "oh the government will provide for your every need!", it takes advantage of her constituents who are struggling to make ends meet. She will never meet those promises, and any implementation of them will result in more poverty, we can prove this through many many well documented analysis from hundreds of examples over the past 100 years. For crying out loud, she CELEBRATED Amazon leaving New York, which would have brought in billions of tax revenue, tens of thousands of high paying jobs, and seriously helped New York, which is currently struggling with stagnant economic growth due to high cost of living, expensive property and rental value, and exorbitant regulations that are forcing major companies to leave New York for greener pastures. She IS a complete moron when it comes to business growth and economic development.
She is a highly uninformed person who has dug in to a flawed ideology based entirely on a broken economic system that does not work. She is self absorbed and is totally invested in the idea and is pushing a very dangerous agenda that could set dangerous precedents for the way our country runs its economy and regards human rights. She has a pompous elitism about her and she portrays herself as a statist. "we are the government, we are better than you, and you cant do anything to stop us from doing what we want to you" is one of her mantras, just look at one of her recent tweets https://twitter.com/AOC/status/1099126500924760064
It goes far beyond just printing money, but you are exactly right with this statement.
Again, you are right on the money here.
Dismiss her as an idiot at your own peril, me I see an ideologue that wil be around a long time. She is an idiot that has been thrust into a position of power by people who are rich, privileged idiots that never leave their gated community echo-chambers of virtue signalling, or by taking advantage or poor people in her district that don't see a way out and havent been given other options. As such, her idiocy has become ideological elitism, and now she is in a position of power. She has become a very dangerous figure to the well being of this country, and she needs to be removed from office.

Once again people, she is playing to her base. Low income folks that will increase in coming decades due to massive replacement of humans by robotics,IT and other tech. Until you understand that you are always going to under estimate her and those that follow her and her kind.
I do fully understand the items you have posted in response pertaining to several of her statements. The thing is that those low income folks do not and only see she is fighting for them. Once again she is not an idiot, she knows exactly what she is doing and saying and it all fits nicely in to rounding up more sheep.

She could win in NY or maybe SF, but doubt too many other places.

Given the coming demographics of race, age other issues the times are a changing. Many solid red areas are turning a shade of purple. Urban centers dominate the elections in many States, those tend to be Dem areas. Given that electoral college counts are divided up and those urban areas can control them bodes well for Dems. Just look at land area in Ca. , it was mostly red yet lost badly due to urban areas.

As more younger voters settle in what are considered rural areas those too will change shades. What were once separated towns in Texas on all sides of Austin have now become more or less one huge organism.

I dont think she is pandering to her base, I think she IS her base.
I believe that she is an honest politician in that she doesnt give smooth lip service in order to win an election.
I just think she is truly clueless, has a total resistance to thinking about things critically and analyzing all of the facts and metrics of the issues she wants to be involved with, and doubles down because she is too dumb have any introspection. She's a walking BuzzFeed or Salon.com headline, and she owns up to that and refuses to be anything else.

I would disagree if you spend any time speaking with young people. It drives my son crazy listening to people in his age group.
I do not disagree with your assessment of her on issues but I do think she is a pied piper for the ignorant.

People use the term "idiot" way too often when referring to politicians in general. Most of the time they are in fact smart individuals who say and do things with the ideas of people in mind.

but radical libs are craving for someone like her. Like Trumo, they want someone that wont take any #### and dont give a #### what people say about her. She is the unsuccessful version of Trump on the lib side for sure.
I really do hope she gets elected President at some point. Trump just say dumb ####. She has dumb ludicrous plans. At least Trump has doable idea's although libs just hate it like a wall. But it wont kill the economy.
Her plans wil destroy our economy. Sometimes you gotta expose what libs really want and pay the price short term.

Since when does US care about affording programs?

We've run a deficit for forever. Will always run a deficit. Nobody cares enough about affordability which is a big problem.
The Republican platform of tax cuts was original setup by Reagan to 'starve the beast'. Assuming lesser tax rolls, then the government will be forced to limit spending and be more lean.
Unfortunately, now everybody wants to cut taxes while also increasing government spending. The two can't work together.
I wish all programs fit within a budget (including any craziness that AOC proposes). That's just not reality.

I would suggest that raising it by over $2-$3 trillion a year above current deficits would be lunacy though.
