ACC Opt-outs Costing Conference Members $$$

Dec 16, 2020, 6:30 PM

Conference members that opt out should not receive their share of bowl/playoff money.

Convince me otherwise.

My understanding is that little money is actually made by going bowling. I believe Clemson’s playoff appearances have cost money, therefore expenses should be covered by the pooled money before being shared. JMHO.

I don't know if that is or is not true. But, if it is, the schools that never go bowling should have a nice nest egg saved up!
Also, hard to believe in normal years AD's will fire a coach "who never makes it to a bowl game"! In essence making it to a bowl game means the AD has to shell out more money! Which in turn would seem counter intuitive for an AD, I would think.
Boosters like having an excuse to travel and go brag on their squad in some place warm in late December/1st of January! Maybe that's where the appeal is.
What about the gate money? TV money? Is it not a normal split; like you would have if a Big 10 team and ACC opponent were to play for example?

The ACC had to actually pay to get us the Humanitarian Bowl
