Heard An Interesting Stat This Morning

Jun 29, 2019, 4:21 PM

Between 1999 and 2019 (20 school years), the SEC has won 21 National Championships in the 3 big sports of Football, Basketball and Baseball. There are 6 SEC schools that have not contributed to SEC titles in these 3 sports and they are:

Ole Miss
Miss State
Arkansas
Missouri
TA&M
The drum roll for number 6 ...............
The elite Georgia Dawgs.

Must be competition in the SEC Least that makes them appear better.

Note. I looked at wikipedia, and if I counted correctly, the other Power 5 Conferences had the following championships in the big 3 sports during the same 20 years.

ACC - 12
PAC 12 - 8
BIG 12 - 5
BIG 10 - 3

what has Tennessee won during that period?

their football NC was in 1998, not 1999.

For the "missing" ones, don't forget basketball NCs like Villanova and UConn.

This just goes to show you can't believe anything on the radio talk shows. I went through the NCAA lists of Championships in the 3 sports looking at the last 20 champions in each and the results differed from the talk show. The current SEC schools only have 20 championships, not 21. However, in 2003, LSU and So. Cal. shared the football championship so the SEC AND PAC12 should only get 1/2 credit.

Also, there are 7 current SEC teams that have not contributed to any of the championships the past 20 years - the previous 6 listed plus Tennessee.

So the updated past 20 conference championships of the big 3 sports using the current conference members is:

SEC - 19 1/2
ACC - 16
PAC12 - 6 1/2
BIG12 - 5
BIG10 - 4
Non-Power 5 Schools - 9 (5 basketball and 4 baseball)

This totals 60 and came from the NCAA website (not wikipedia).

Nice job... The SEC/ACC difference is negligible contrary to
