2 prominent ex-Clemson FB players say take Calhoun name off all signs on the campus..

so how in the world is a visitor to find the man who owned this land 200 years b/4 these players, and for which the college is built around on all four sides, of his property.
Saying, How are they the visitor to find his famous & lovely on-campus home named Fort Hill if there’s no signage to say “John C Calhoun” home?
John C Calhoun was a 2-time VP, US Senator, Sec of State, Sec of War and had visitors to his home by the likes of Henry Clay & Daniel Webster..all around 6’6” like Calhoun himself.
And amazingly I read where a commission put together by Senator John F Kennedy in 1957 claimed that John C Calhoun ranked as one of the top 5 most influential Senators of all time in America.
Plus, even President Obama never suggested erasing names of former slave owners or renaming buildings..so why two young ex-football ball players who’ve become instant successful multi-millionaires who now express discontent after they originally came to Clemson on scholarships.
We are letting the tail (athletics) wave the head!
One can see where a program or schollie or whatever carrying the Calhoun name would be offensive to some and deleting it from that forum would be acceptable, but banning his name from the record & history books as well as his home that comprises the jewel of Clemson Univ. would be a big mistake.
Saying, these fine & beloved FB players are gone and their being on winning football teams is a drop in the bucket to what Mr Calhoun did for this Nation..good or bad!
And, they say when you hide history (good or bad) you forget & repeat the bad.

Removing Calhoun from the honors college is ok, but not off everything. History cannot and should not be re-written. Everyone has done some things that weren't good, but that is no reason to forget the good that has been done by decades of graduates from Clemson because of Calhoun, Clemson, etc.
Erasing prominent ex-Clemson FB players names from Clemson history would not change history either. Let's be sensible. Rename everything with the name of Washington, Grant, etc. as they once owned slaves. Don't spend or accept money with their likenesses, etc.
Get real.

Slavery was a terrible institution that ended after the Civil War for the most part. One of the worst wars of US history where brother killed brother and fathers killed sons. Whites killed blacks and blacks killed whites.
A war that should have never taken place, instead people should have sit down and agreed to end the sin of owning another person.
But if we are going to remove John C Calhoun's name from Clemson should we not also remove the name of George Washington from our capitol city. Should we not remove Thomas Jefferson's face from our currency. Should we not strike the name of Benjamin Franklin from our history books. They were all slave owners.
Heck shouldn't we give all of the land back to the American Indians. Everyone is guilty of living on land that is not really yours. And who cries out for these once proud people, for their justice?
And what about slave trade, New York City was the first slave market in the United States trading with the Dutch traders. Boston, Mass. became the largest slave market in the 17th and 18th centuries.
Maybe we can go back and right all the wrongs of history, but be careful of what you ask for, you may just get it. I personally don't know how to speak the Cherokee language.

And to go along with that, we would have to dynamite Mt. Rushmore.

The sad part of it is a large portion of the slaves brought here were captured by other black African tribes to be sold and shipped here for a life of ####.......so they sold their own people and fellow Africans into slavery.......Go Tigers!!!!!!

They weren't Americans though. I think these players are more concerned with the USA and our history.

My point is many many of them were sold into slavery by their on African people......they were rounded up like cattle by their own people and sold to the highest bidder on the slave ships........they would have never been forced to come over here if that had not happened ......does not excuse the white slave owners for bringing them here but it certainly does not excuse their own people for selling them either.......this is never ever mentioned or discussed but it is also a big part of their history into slavery......so I would say their African ancestors are just as guilty if not more the blame for this......Go Tigers !!!!!

I think we need to remember that many people who were wrong about slavery did some good things in other areas. Washington, Jefferson and many other of the founders owned slaves. If we try to erase their names from every town and monument it will be a long project and what will it accomplish.
For another view of Calhoun: “In 1957, a Senate Committee headed by Senator John F. Kennedy selected Calhoun as one of the five greatest United States Senators of all time.[5][6]”
He must have done something significant other than advocate slavery.

Without John C Calhoun there would never have even been a Clemson University......this crap needs to stop and stop now......we can’t change history ....it is what it is......must include the good, the bad, and the ugly........but it is our history and this is the present.......defunding the police departments, defunding jails, etc...... what the crap will they come up with next......and the sad part of it is the ones that will suffer the most if these idiotic policies are carried out will be the poorer black communities and neighborhoods .......the murder rate would sky rocket with no one their to protect them......makes absolutely not sense.....Go Tigers!!!!

Thomas Green Clemson was the founder of Clemson University. He was also John C Calhoun's son-in-law. He also owned at least 243 slaves. How can his name be removed?
