Sadly 14,802 Americans reported deceased on Thurs from COVID19

Apr 8, 2020, 1:17 PM

with 17 states having triple digit deaths.

Terrible statistics but it could & probably will be much worst in next 2 weeks..but hope the virus can stay under present double digits in those other 33 states.

SC & NC are in very low double digits while Ga is in the mid 300 range.

Some early deaths probably werent even recognized as the virus early on so numbers could be low. Like diagnoed number is lower that actual cases since many stay home or have minor symptoms. Still hard to grasp how it is minor for some folks and deadly for others

It's not that difficult to grasp, considering that of the 51 deaths in SC, 49/51 had preexisting health issues; 47/51 were elderly.

BTW, if you're a smoker and get COVID-19, you're probably not going to make it.

A few points:
1. I don't know the source of that tweet, but a NY Times article that I read said that the number of heart attacks, not heart attack deaths, has gone down. That is very different because heart attacks aren't called Covid. Do you know the source of that tweet?

2. I suspect that deaths are attributed to covid similarly to the flu. For instance, if someone with asthma gets the flu and dies, it is probably calld a flu death.

Do they have an agenda!?!?!

Re: 61,000 deaths during the 2017–2018 influenza season.

Apr 8, 2020, 11:01 PM

We have a vaccine for the flu so that is doing something. Also, there were 45 million estimated cases of the flu that year. At the current death rate of confirmed C19 cases we’d have 1.35 million deaths of 45 million people caught C19. Cut the current death rate in half and you’d still be looking at 675k deaths.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I doubt the current death rate will continue to rise

I actually think we are nearing the peak.

It will be interesting to see what the final numbers look like.

Apr 9, 2020, 8:06 AM [ in reply to 61,000 deaths during the 2017–2018 influenza season. ]

When our health care community looked at this virus, they saw an opportunity for FAR more deaths, so they "shut down" (as you say) the country. You see, they didn't shut it down because we would have 15k or 30k deaths, they shut it down to avoid 200k or 500k or 1M. The R0 value of flu is a little over 1; the R0 of this corona is thought to be between 2 and 3, so it has the potential to spread to more people, more quickly. Implying that we shouldn't have "shut down" because we have "only" 14k deaths is like saying we don't need airbags in cars because fewer people per mile die in wrecks than before. Thank God the "shut down", we likely avoided MUCH more deaths.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Was there an "agenda" when "only 3,500" people died

Apr 9, 2020, 9:21 AM [ in reply to 61,000 deaths during the 2017–2018 influenza season. ]

as a result of 9/11 and the country freaked out and we started a 10+ year war over it?

Equally stupid argument.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Was there an "agenda" when "only 3,500" people died

Apr 9, 2020, 9:42 AM

I see what you’re trying to do here, but that was a TERRIBLE analogy. You are comparing a rapid spreading disease to someone hijacking American Airplanes and crashing them into our World Trade Center. One is an outbreak, the other is a direct act of war.

How are these comparable???

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well, they aren't comparable and that is exactly the point.

Apr 9, 2020, 10:16 AM

Neither is the flu nor traffic accidents. But for whatever reason folks are trying to minimize the current issue by comparing other issues.

I haven't really seen anyone drill deeper into this "agenda" other than some conspiracy to get DJT out of office, which is the dumbest thing I've heard in my entire life.

Finally hear from a leader that gets it.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/08/politics/barack-obama-coronavirus-nationwide-testing-monitoring/index.html

Until we have a vaccine or effective therapies, we gotta proceed like it’s wartime with testing and contact monitoring. Or ya’ll stay in your bunker for a couple years waiting for vaccine. We clearly need the ability to test the entire US population multiple times. That’s multiple tests for each of 330,557,637 Americans. I know we r trying to manufacture lots of testing kits in a hurry, but I don’t hear reports of the necessary volume. I heard one report of making 50,000 test kits per day. I hope that’s for a state cuz that’s only 18M annually. Not gonna cut it. Need to to manufacture test kits with war time urgency and volume or we r gonna be in our bunkers waiting for vaccine, effective therapies or treatments. Our leaders need to get some huevos and take action like it’s wartime. This is game on. If u think my thoughts are fear mongering if I suggest u diversify your news source beyond fox and orange colored reality tv stars.

heard a great idea today where they can test 10 people at a time, just mix all their blood samples together and run 1 test. Statistically most come up negative, but when they don't they can go back and test them again individually. This would save a lot of testing kits and a lot of time.

He called a national emergency on Oct 24, 2009, nearly six months and after 1000 fatalities of his acting director of health declared it a health emergency.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Obama

Apr 9, 2020, 4:21 PM

(sigh) from Snopes:

There are several factual inaccuracies in this excerpt alone. For instance, PJ media writes that H1N1 became a pandemic in April 2009. But that’s not the case. The disease emerged in April but wasn’t declared a pandemic until June.

The excerpt also claims that Obama “declared a public health emergency on what was already a pandemic” in October 2009. But this is also wrong. Obama declared a national emergency, not a public health emergency, in October 2009. The Obama administration declared a public health emergency in April, months before swine flu was declared a pandemic. At the time that the Obama administration declared a public health emergency, only 20 confirmed cases (not over a million) of H1N1 existed in the United States.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Obama

Apr 9, 2020, 5:02 PM

(sigh) from Politifact.com.

WHO declared a pandemic for H1N1 on June 11, 2009... Obama responded with national emergency on Oct. 24,2009 (1000 fatalities into it).

So, the national emergency came approx 4 months after the WHO announced it as a pandemic and 6 months after his admin declared it a public health emergency (20 fatalities into it)

Skip to Covid 19:

On Feb. 29th, first fatality.. Feb 31st - PHE, Mar 13th - NE (less than 30 fatalities)

Summary - 1 month later, Total lockdown of international flights (less than 30 fatalities)

Ho Hum, POTUS OBAMA.

COVID-19...462,391 cases with 16,454 deaths in less than 2 months so far even with social distancing measures in place. Death rate of 3.55%.

To be clear, this reply from me has nothing to do with comparing presidents. I just think it’s beyond idiotic that people keep comparing these two viruses as if they’re even remotely similar.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Obama

Apr 9, 2020, 6:35 PM

I don’t think anyone is arguing the contagion level or fatality rate. I’m arguing the narrative that DJT has not responded and done the best job possible despite a BS agenda by the Democrats to impeach him up to and after the day that it was called an emergency. Couple that with the MSM and said parties attempt to uncouple all of this administrations accomplishments.

I say this in comparing the two viruses, and not comparing political leaders at all. C19 has already killed over 2,000 more people in a little over a month even with social distancing precautions than H1N1 did in an entire year. You're right though, it makes perfect sense to keep comparing the two.

KeoweeIndians - I hope that someday Trump supporters have the balls to admit he is in way over his head with the current task. Its gettin pretty old, tired of trump supporters being so timid that any critique of trump or compliment of someone outside the administration is either fake news or is countered with some old news bout Hillary, Obama, Bush, etc. You can go back and research H1N1 but Obama is correctly stating the immediate needs. Gotta have huge volume of testing and contact tracing. It’s bout time conservative media admit this guy is in way over his head. The truth is, prior to being POTUS, DJT never managed anything more than real estate dev projects, licensing agreements, the tasks we saw on the apprentice (seriously), thousands of lawsuits as plaintiff and defendant and lots of very effective press conferences. You’ve been conned. Fox News been treating this guy w kid gloves, giving him a participation trophy every day and folks like you buy into the con, hook line and sinker. Have some huevos. If fox treated DJT in objective manner he would be toast. In reality Fox News is a pawn of trump and is more similar to state run media, much like the swamp or deep state that trump has you vigilantly trying to find. You’ve been conned. I’m very sorry if the truth hurts but I’ve had it with pansie conservative media telling us that every critique of trump is fake news, unamerican or socialist. I know what’s fake, I’m 100% American and have zero socialist thoughts.

Neil Cavuto on Fox is frequently critical of Trump and so was the departed Shep Smith. Geraldo constantly blasts Trumps immigration policies. Fox allows liberal guests to offer counter arguments to the general air of conservatism.

Even Tucker Carlson quite often is on the other side of a hot conservative issue.

What President in History has had to deal with something like this? How would your hero Obama have done any better??? His admin had already started cutting costs on measures that would have helped protect us from this.

Please explain this: It took the U.S. over 200 years to reach 9 trillion in debt. Obama got us to 24 + trillion in 8 years while doing nothing to help the U.S. economy. This guy who is in “way over his head” comes in and we have the largest economic boom in history. Yeah, everyone else is the ones with their heads in the sand.

No president in history has had to deal with something like this. No debate there.

Read the article I posted if you want to see how Obama would handle this better.

Diversify your news forces you’ll be much more well-informed.

You don’t wanna bring up national debt if u are a fiscally conservative trump supporter. He’s been a disaster. He never has been a republican. It’s comical to think trump is a republican. Again, ya’ll been conned.

But bpolitical parties drive the debt more than any POTUS. The last president to handle the debt well was Clinton. He and Gore did best job in years in reducing govt. Bith dems and GOP in Congress lie and steal their way to increasing the Nat debt. Been doing it for decades. Again, diversify beyond your current sole source of news.

One thing trump has done well is de-regulation. You would hope this would translate to reduced nat debt, but not so.

Look at rate of Nat debt increase during dem admins and then during GOP admins. You’ll be surprised.

Yes Trump is in way over his head. Most people don’t have their head in the sand. FOXNews and Trump do not have their head in the sand, they know they’re carrying out quite a con job.

I’ll go back And review mY second grade schoolwork tO get MO better with capitalization.

Prior to becoming POTUS, Obama was a community organizer turned senator of one of the biggest ****hole cities in all of the US. Which saw a former Gov bid O's vacated senator seat to the highest bidder. That was before he was caught of course and sentenced to prison. Illinois has been in a declining state sense the GOP lost control in the mid 90's which is evident in the financial status as well as the crime rate in it's inner cities. Through all of this COVID outbreak my stocks are still equal to 2016 Obama numbers, the economy is still relatively strong and will come back once the fear machine of MSM cools off. At the end of the day, you have to ask yourself if you like what you see as a US citizen from a financial stability standpoint, immigration, healtcare, etc. I think the answer is clear over what we stand to lose with an old pervert with dementia.
