Pro Scouts obviously think Clemson has made five straight

Apr 25, 2020, 8:48 AM

CFPs with smoke and mirrors, since our offensive linemen get NO love in the league. Take Alabama as an example of the other extreme, where seemingly EVERY offensive lineman gets drafted.

Who was our last good OL in the NFL? Serious question.

Ofensive linemen making teams as UDFA's just does not

happen, ours or anybody elses. You have to be given a serious chance before you can make a team.

To answer your question, I would have to go all the way back to the Bostic boys.

I looked up the current Bama OL in the NFL and none of them are doing anything special.

There sure are a lot of them though***

Mitch Hyatt is listed on Dallas current roster. Does anyone

know details? Last I heard, he was on their practice squad. I freely admit to not following the Cowgirls. Not a Jerry Jones fan in any way, shape, or form.

Over half the OL in the league are UDFA.

Highest percentage position group, though I don't have numbers to give you.

Out of all players in the NFL, offense or defense, that play at least 40% of the snaps for their teams, 17% of those guys were undrafted free agents. That was in 2017. I bet most of those guys are OL like you stated.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Barry Richardson may be the most recent with # of starts...

Brandon Thomas was taken in R3.

Quick look, he, Shatley & Hyatt seem the only Tigers currently rostered in the NFL?

Whitley was with the Panthers for a good while

Chris Hairston has been at it a while. Good enough to stay employed for a decent run. Big dude, stood next to him at the top of the Hill before a game once and was dwarfed.

Last played 2017. He had a lot of starts though. Anyway, I bet with this class coming out, those on campus, and those committed and on the way in a year, we will end up having a lot of guys on NFL rosters in a few years. We have come a long way since Tommy Sharpe. Also, it will be interesting to see where Jackson Carman is drafted.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If Carman does not get drafted, fairly high, then somebody

Apr 25, 2020, 9:22 AM

is not paying attention. Just the fact that he blocked the "unblockable" Chase Young ought to be testament enough of his abilities.

Has to be a top 2 round pick.

Carman the best O-linemen I can recall at Clemson since the Bostic brothers. Clemson linemen are producing with technique.

Relatively speaking, OL has been our weakest position group

Apr 25, 2020, 9:26 AM

during Swinneys tenure, followed by LB. DL and WR have been our biggest strengths. We've also been really good at corner and we are now starting to churn out QBs as well.

Given that, it's not really surprising that a lot of our draft picks have been DL, WRs, and CBs, and TL will soon be our 2nd highly drafted QB.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

O-line is a really weird position for transitioning from

Apr 25, 2020, 9:36 AM

college to pro. High draft picks do poorly, undrafted free agents make a team. Big school guys flow, small college guys do well. Does not seem to be any rhyme or reason. Seems very individual and certainly not predictable. If you need 2 guys, better draft 3 and the sign 3 udfas and hope to end up with 2. I mean how many guys graduate each year that can stop Vic Beasley coming off the edge? Stop Wilkins coming up the middle? And 32 teams are looking for a couple of those dudes each year.

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Drafted?? Not so much but we haven't recruited

Apr 25, 2020, 10:03 AM

4 and 5* OLs until recently. Dabo knows we need improvement, just look at last few yrs.

But OL in NFL with starter salaries just off top my memory is B Thomas, Hyatt which just signed at end of season, and Shatley just signed a nice new contract. That said, if I recall Shatley was a LB then DL, then moved to OL. I think it is awesome how our coaches find the right position for players that will benefit them and give opportunities in the future.

But our most lacking position of star rated players therefore transition to NFL has been the OL. But that has changed since Hyatt. We have signed a bunch of 4* but we need to continue. I think that has been a missing link in our entire system which seems to be elevated.
