The D is ahead of where some thought it would be and is getting better. The O is behind where some thought it would be and is getting better. How good will this team be when the orange pants are broken out at the end of November for the championships???

what is it about our team that sees is start out slow on a regular basis? we have a wealth of talent on the sidelines and the field.

as for the progression of team through the season, we might never have imagined what we are about to see.

Slow starts.

I think our slow starts over the last few years have been attributable to:

* Being the #1 team on most of our opponents schedules--they are super pumped up in the 1st quarter but that's not sustainable

* Given the first item, I think our play calling in the 1st quarter is very conservative--if ETN can bust a 90 yd run on an up-the-middle delayed draw, that's nice, but it was still just an up-the-middle delayed draw; being conservative means maybe we have to punt once or twice in the 1st quarter but are less likely to do much of anything that leads to the opponents getting their hopes up

* We still cycle lots of players through the lineup even in the 1st half of early season games, so there's bound to be a little roughness
