Pitchfork Ben

Jan 15, 2015, 9:48 AM

Pitchfork Ben Tillman was a hero to some, a racist scoundrel to others but either way he’s long since gone.

I don’t propose to yet again change the name of that building, but instead leave it as is: a fossil to remind us that even though he accomplished many things, in the end he was filled with hatred.

Shakespeare said that “The evil that men do lives after them; the good is oft interred with their bones”.
For ol’ Pitchfork Ben, it seems to be the other way around.

Remember, every time a minority student or professor walks across the Clemson campus, Ben Tillman’s spirit rolls in his grave.

Every member of the Clemson family should strive to end racial discrimination.

We are better for We Are Clemson!

Go Tigers!!

Ben was a typical politician.

That actually proves nothing. Slave owners quite often had competitions in strength etc. between the slaves that they each owned. The slave owners each cheered for their own slaves. To assume that one is not racist simply because they cheer for black athletes would be a faulty leap in logic.
Just Sayin.

the history of Pitchfork Ben, look it up, you seem to have computer access.
And I voted for Mitt Romney, guess that shocks a great many racists on this site.
Why don't we give all our recruits a party and let the good ol boys give them their view of history and race relations, I'm sure that'd bring in Fields and some others.
Wonder if they ever visit this site?
And oh yeah, I've been called a cracker too.
Go Tigers!!

Think of that next time you're cheering on our minority athletes.
